Can't Find A Chmod Tool

birudagmawi
I was just setting up my site when I came across some problem. Some of the main files are unwritable so I need to change the server permissions. The problem is I don't know any tool that can do that. All the new FTP tools such as FileZilla don't support Windows 98se anymore and the old one that does doesn't work on my OS.

Is there any type of FTP tool that incorporates the CHMOD tool?

WsFTP is another good alternative to FileZilla. I am shock to find that FileZilla decided not to support Windows 98 sad.gif

You can change CHMOD using your cpanel as well. Access your cpanel and go to File Manager. Select the file you want to change and look to the upper right corner. You will find Change Permissions.

If you are still interested in an FTP program that can CHMOD and supports Win98 I believe LeechFTP fits your needs. The programmer is MIA but it's very stable and light.

What about Serv-U or BulletProof FTP Server ?? I was using Serv-U on my old pc too and there was Windows 98 smile.gif Try this too they are easy to use and they have many options. Now Im using BulletProof FTP Server but on WinXp and I think it must go at Windows 98 too smile.gif

Hmmm...I can't seem to find any CHMOD tools on the program. Maybe you're thinking of another program.

I use smartFTP to change the permissions of files. Here is a link: http://www.smartftp.com/
This one is pretty easy to use. To CHMOD all you have to do is right-click the file, then click CHMOD.

It's there, it's just not called/labelled CHMOD.

When you're logged onto your web server right-click a file and click "Set Attributes". A window labelled "UNIX File Flags" will show up, different name but it's there.

FYI: my version is 1.3 (copyright 1999)
