Yes, and you probably should not do that. Modifying your wireless card IS LIKELY to give you many problems. One of the first problems you are going to run into will probably be impedence mismatches from your solder joints and definately mismatches if you change the antenna. Placing your antenna outdoors will not necessarily be any better than having it indoors. The only reason to have an outdoor wireless antenna, in my opinion, would be to service an are that is not within a normal wireless range. (From your living room to bedroom for example.) Sounds like you might need an industrial wireless solution. Check out www.cirronet.com for an idea of what I am talking about. Good luck!

I realised this thread is about 2 years old. Anyway since it is bumped, I shall contribute. You can modify your own wireless cards or even your wireless router to whatever you want it to be. However by modifying, all warranties will be void immediately. Also, you have a very high chance of getting a non-working product as a result unless you are very sure of what you are doing and a professional in it. If you know how to modify it, you can even tune it into FM radios or detect walkie-talkie signals at far ranges.

How Video Cards Render What You See
(0) Posting because I found it to be a good read. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)"
border="0" alt="cool.gif" /> QUOTE Since some people like to argue about which features and
visual effects have an effect on performance, whether or not feature X is possible on card Y, or
whether DirectX version Z can, but might not know all about the actual rendering, and (many?) others
seem to be interested in just a general understanding of what determines your overall performance, I
thought I'd try to make sure these discussions are at least based in reality.....
8800 Series Graphics Cards
(1) So, what're your thoughts after seeing it in action in some form or fashion? NVIDIA has showcase
at http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce8.html , though I'm wondering why they haven't
released any tech demos for at least the basic stuff you can do (or at least for those with Windows
Vista RC1/2). The thing that trips me out the most is the water effect (the DX10 geometry shader).
The Quantum Effects technology I'd have to see in another form or fashion. But geez, the 8800
kind of creates a whole new ball park of terms we have to know. Instead of pipeline....

tune the antenna to the right position, but the greatest signal that I was able to get is -80dbm
(low/very low)! I thought that the antenna was the problem, so I borrowed one from a friend (and
a 15m cable also). It turns out that the signal was a little bit worse (-82dbm) than before, so I
borrowed a D-link DWL-520+ wireless card. I was shocked to see that the signal on....
