| | I have two computers on the same router. My Comcast advertise a max of 6 mbps. On testing one of my computers I get 5.5 mbps. On my other computer I only get 4.6 mbps. I am using the on board NICs for both computers. I got these numbers based on several runs on several days.
One motherboard is Asus P4T533-c with a built-in Intel pro-100 ve NIC. (5.5 mbps) The other motherboard is GA-8IHXP 3.0 with a built-in Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. (4.6 mbps)
Does anyone have any idea why one computer is faster than the other? I used nyc.speakeasy.net to test the computers. The faster computer is connected to a 50 ft cat 6 cable to the routher. If anything I would think the computer running with a 3 ft cable should be faster. Something has changed, but I don't have a clue to what. I am pretty sure the speeds us to be equal.
Any ideas? Could upgrading the router flash cause a problem?
Any software to fully test the NICs?
Best regards,

You're right, the longer the cable, the longer it takes for the data to get there. The NICs use different chipsets, so that has a processing factor. The computers aren't identical, so there is that factor. The quality of the cables may even factor in some, the distance can factor in, EMI can factor in, etc. Depending on hardware configuration and the negotiation of each NIC, the best you could do is set both NICs to 100/full duplex in the NIC properties, then run the test. That will tell you the best possible performance you'll get from either NIC. Just because they're both 10/100 NICs doesn't mean they both operate at the same level. kservice

Humm... so let's see, andrescasta signs off but the forum name is kservice. And kservice replies to the reply supposedly towards andrescasta. Upon further examination, andrescasta and kservice share the same IP. So my questions are why have you cheated TRAP17 and who's account should be terminated?

Connecting Two Computers With A Crossover Cable
Got the basics, anything I'm missing? (7) I was going to connect two computers together with a crossover cable to share files, and maybe even

need to set each computers IP. (I'm not to sure on how to do that) Then I need to make sure the
computers can "talk" to each other. From what I've read that's all I need to do. Anything
I'm missing? If someone could explain the part about setting the computers I....

Router Is Acting Weird
After a power failure (8) Hello people, This week we've had a power failure arround the entire neighbourhood. Altrough
the power was restored after a few hours my computer has a big problem now, basicly, if I let it
inactive for too long (and sometimes randomly) the router disconnects my PC. When I try to reconnect
to the network after that I get an error message saying something like my PC cant get a network
adress assigned. After reconnecting / disconnecting the network cables and reinstalling the drivers
from my network card it usually starts working again, for a few while. Now I'm af....
Several Computers On Dial Up At Once?
Please help! (9) Hey guys. I was looking at a way to run several computers on one Internet connection (Dial-up) at
the same time. One problem, I can't find anything. So I turned to trusty 'ol Trap17 to
help me out. I need a way to run several computers off of one dial-up connection without having to
use networking, where one computer connects, and the rest use it's connection. I need a device
that will allow me to connect several computer by themselves, or if needed, once one computer

Can't Configure My Router With Aol
(6) I bought a DLink-524 wireless router, because I am getting another computer and a laptop and I
wanted to share the network. I am running AOL with Broadband DSL which I have had for some time
with no problems. Here is the setups (Like I said I am new to routers) DSL modem > Router >
Computer (As the manual said). There is an ip to connect to to configure the router. I can get
there no problem, and configure it (pppoe). But it doesn't connect. It seems that the only way
I can connect to the internet is directly from the modem to my computer. Am I missing somet....
Slow Connection With Linksys Wrt54g Router
working fine until few months ago (8) Hey there everybody! I need some help. Here's the problem. I have a Linksys Wireless WRT54G
v5 router, which, I think, is acting up. First of all, I can't get port forwarding to work!
About three month ago my port forwarding was working flawlessly, I could use download clients like
DC++, or BitComet, or have an ftp server running, etc... Now, whichever ports I use, nothing seems
to work. Plus, in clients like DC++ where you're connected to several hubs, the connection to
the hubs is constantly dropped. On top of that, the joke's on me actually....
Wrt54g V5 Loses Connection
Linksys Router (2) I have a WRT54G v5 router and ADSL with PPPoE and I'm experiencing problems with the router
dropping the Default gateway periodically. After browsing this forum for similar problems and
hopefully solutions with no luck on the solution part I decided to chat with Linksys. The guy I
chatted with suggested that I should try changing the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 instead
of 192.168.50.1 which I had set it to before. In my ears the tip sounded like rubbish, but I gave it
a try and it actually seems to be working. A sufficient amount of time hasn't passe....
What Is Your Prefered Wireless Router?
(6) My Linksys BEFW11S4 had recently lost sensitivity to wireless connections and often had drop
packets. Pinging the router replies with "Request timed out". I'm thinking of getting a new
wireless router. I've not used other brands before but thought of changing brands as I'm
afraid another Linksys product might cause the same problem. However, as Linksys is part of Cisco, I
feel a certain sense of sercurity in Linksys products. I'm not sure which brands I should get.
This poll might give alot of help to me and also please leave comments and suggestions so....
