If sony starts using it for PS3 than the games we would buy would be more expensive than ever. And maybe the hardware too. Because wouidn't you need a faster "thing" to read the large data disc? The whole concept is great but I"m pretty sure its not going to be public anytime soon.

I don't think so, because a major change in the hardware is wavelength of the laser and accuracy of the head (it's about reading/writing more data from/to the media with the size of current DVDs) so there's no such speedy thing and because it's not just in the hand of Sony and they already have the technology, it would not be so expensive ( I HOPE! )

I'd like to use this disk for computer backups... I hate having to sort through everything, deciding what to but on my back up disk and what not to. I'd love the extra space.

well, by the time Blu-Ray becomes the standard we'll have terrabytes of data stored in harddisks anyway, so it won't be any different than dvd-r today. However there is a bigger problem. Hollywood decided to go with the DVD Forum and the next gen HD-DVD which stores up to 20GB on a single layer. So if they divide, then sony will lose its movie playing function. Moreover, manufacturers are already picking their sides. For example Sanyo, NEC and Toshiba opted to go with HD-DVD. Hopefully this competition between the formats will bring down the prices

LoL... Hope it will be implemented for our daily usage, it will save a lot of space in my CD racks.... Btw, how about its price, if it is used for PS3 games, then it shouldn't cost so much right?

This morning I was going to listen to some music, so I got my iPod, turned it on, and it reset (I
hadn't had it plugged in for a while). When I got to the music, it would go through half of a
song, then skip to the next. After doing this a couple times, it would just skip entire songs.
It'd skip six or seven, then do half of one, then skip six or seven more. Later I looked on the
internet for some ideas, so eventually I tried resetting it again, as instructed. This worked for a
little bit, but then it started skipping over songs again. I reset again, and it lost...
New Tech: Data Transmiting At 2.56 Terabites Per Second!
- Thats like 60 dvd's per second! (11)
QUOTE Japanese and German researchers have transmitted data over a 160 kilometer link. This
breaks the old record witch was held at 1.28 terabits per second. This new technology has
allowed the researches to transfer 2,560,000,000,000 bits per second witch is the equivalent to 60
dvd's.And this is PER SECOND ...... Just amazing what these people can come up with,
stuck in a labatatory with copper wire everywhere,... wait more like fiber-optic. -To me this
shows the progression of technology and speed of witch we will shortly be able to achei...

yes Researchers have succeeded in storing data in dna so there will be soon a time will come when we
will not be gettting data stored on disks, computer chips, hard drives and good paper but we will be
storing it on dna of bacteria.actually the four characters that represent the genetic coding in DNA
,work much like digital data. Character combinations can stand for specific letters and symbols so
codes in genomes can be translated, or read, to produce music, text, video and other content. but
now its in development stage and may be not relaible but soon it will be ,a...

Has anyone heard about NCQ? It is a new type of technology incorporated into new drives which makes
them smarter and hence increases the overall comp performance. NCQ - stands for native command

all the commands during high load and then the one which has the highest priority or the one which
is immediately required is executed first so that the no so important process wait. This is supposed
to increase the performance of the computer significantly. The Maxtor Diamond ...
