to reread lyons post on the first page(which was posted over a year ago i think). seo changes constantly and what works today will probably not work tomorrow. why? because people will always abuse they way things work and take advantage of any holes they find in the system of ranking high in the search engines.
also keep in mind that you will never be able to optimize for the 20 or so keywords that people tend to put in there keywords meta tag sometimes. it's best to include about 3 key words and base your page on those key words. also, each page of your website should have different content so each page should have a different title, description, and another set of about 3 key words. most people will use the same meta tags on all their pages. although google really doesn't take interest much in metatags, google still uses them to index your site with a title and description in their search results. other search engines still rely more on metatags than google but this will only include 30% of all searches done on the net. it's hard to optimize for every search engine. in fact, impossible. so i tend to optimize for the search engine that people search on the most which is google.
one over looked area of seo are press releases. there are hundreds of sites that deal only in press releases and it's a good way to get your site known and also a good way for incoming links. it takes time to submit if you don't have the software to do it for you, but well worth it.
press releases will be my advanced seo tip for the day
