why do they block evrything School\'s Blocking System. my school blocks almost everything.. And I don't get it.. When we have to do reserchis for a school we can barely get on anything to get the information...And about the onlythings they don't block is yahoo, yahoomail and youtube, why no those ones people could easily get on yahoo and have people email them there just like myspace so why bloc... read more.

We have blocking software, the two biggest blocks they have, which really bother me is about.com (the name suggests educational) and yahoo.com (I don't understand this one) but I've found that if you just want to read the content of a page, for reasearch or whatever you can use the google cach to view a recent copy of that page.
Heh my school has blocked google images. Stupid losers looking up porn at school ruined it for everyone. x_x
my school has a blocking system too! and i think it sucks, because it blocks yahoo search in general...but it allows google i think that sucks! but it is necissary for the protection of the teachers jobs..because it isn't the kid that gets in trouble it is the teacher >_< one teacher at our school got fired because a kid looked at gay porn..pshh i still say it was the teacher really though

At my school we have a filtering system because they say that people spend too much time accessing non-educational sites. They also block any site that is deemed inappropriate by someone sat in an office somewhere. So, when it came to my ICT coursework, creating a website on smoking, when searching for "smoking" we got every single site blocked.
A little bit of now-not-so-common sense would go a long way to getting these filtering systems working properly.
my scool blocke nearly everything, but we cna get round a fair bit of it by searching on google and going to a random page lol stupid i know!!!

My old school didn't have internet access for the kids, but for the office, they had what they claim is strict filtering. I don't know the details, but it probably wasn't some enterprise solution. I bet it was something like a Norton internet suite, with whatever content filtering it has turned on. My current school also doesn't either provide us with Net access, but I would appreciate it.

I agree that the school blocking system sucks, I'm a senior and I watched it take place when MSN was blokked. Now all games are blocked, if using google and typing games it will not allow any games found on that page to open, any hostile sites are blocked within days and sometimes hours. Freedom is not a part of school anymore. Going to school is like living in Japan everything is Sensored
The school filter system here is so advanced! It blocks almost everything, even Proxy Avoidance. It really sucks because it evolves. They update it every now and then. Will someone post something that works?

You should see my school's internet - There's a certain word that allows any page! You simply need the word somewhere in the url and the page can be accessed
 The word is 'smith' by the way. But I doubt it would work for any other schools. (e.g. vtunnel.com?smith would make the website usable! Well you don't even need to use vtunnel at my school if you know the trick (which I independently discovered))
The filtering software makes it hard to even get legit work done at school. For example, you could be looking up interesting landforms for a geography project and find some interesting link, only to have it blocked for being "uncategorised".
If students really wanted to play games or whatnot, they could easily bring stuff from home on a USB mass storage device.. But then, if they had no filters at all, there would be panicking parents showing up at the admin office complaining about it. Filtered internet is still better than no internet at all. =/
