| | hey. I have been seeing Ruby and Ruby on rails alot lately and I really have no clue what these languages do. What is it that they do? Similar to php, or is it not web based at all? Fill me in on all of it please- I am the clueless wonderer.

I was wondering this to. Trap17 added Ruby on rails recently. Read the Announcement topic, and the second post has some tutorials on it. Read those and you might get a clue.

Hi, i'm a ruby on rails fan, and also an ubuntu user, i would like to share the steps i've
been through in order to install ruby on rails. Some of you might noticed that there is a rails
package available in ubuntu, but i think it's better not user these package. instead i download
the rails gem with rubygems package manager. here is the walk through: 1.- install ruby using the
apt-get tool QUOTE sudo apt-get install ruby rdoc irb libyaml-ruby libzlib-ruby ri
libopenssl-ruby 2.- Install rubygems manually from source. download the latest rubygems...

Since Web 2.0 has become one of the top buzzwords nowadays, I'm curious about the new languages:
Ruby (on Rails), AJAX and scriptaculous are several methods programmers use to make web
applications. I'd like to build some applications, but the trouble is where to start. How easy
is it to make a web app in the first place? Which programs/languages have a learning curve
that's not so steep? ...
