The article doesn't say too much about how they did it, but it mentions that they trapped a single ion in a cage about the size of a postage stamp and manipulate it with electrodes. Apparently they did it in such a way that will make it relatively easy to greatly increase the number of electrodes and ions.

Wow that is really interesting since it could change everything about a computer. There wouldnt be just 1's and 0's anymore which would be interesting. Also, recently the importance of Physics has become way more involved and intertwined with computer science and engineering. I really wonder what will come next.
