Remote Desktop Connection - How to set up remote desktop connection on Window

itcom
Hi,

Last term, I presented my presentation to my supervisor every day with Remote Desktop Connection. I did not need to bring my laptop from my hostel to campus, campus to hostel. It is very convenient for me. So, I would like to share my knowledge to you. It is also good when you are away from your computer, you can still access your computer from the distance. For example, if you were in Italy and studied there, you should not need to bring your computer, but you could manage your computer.

It is very simple and very easy. I would like to explain with pictures. There are two parts: ONE is to set up on your remote computer, ANOTHER ONE is to access your remote computer from another computer.

First, you have to know your ip address.

To know your IP address:
1. Please go to Start > Run
2. Type "cmd"
3. In the command mode, type "ipconfig"
4. If you will get your IP address as following picture, please write it down or save in your PDA. You have to use this later.

To change setting in System properties:
1. Please go to Start > My Computer > Right Click your mouse
2. When you see "System Properties" window, click "Remote" tab.
3. When you see two check boxes, please tick both of them.
4. Then click "OK"

To change setting in Registry Editor:
1. Please go to Start > Run
2. Type "regedit"
3. Go to the folder which is under
CODE
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp

4. Click "Port Number"
5. Change the port number into 22 ( if your server support 80 or 90, you do not need to change this. In some universities, they do not allow students to access port 80, and port 90. Therefore, when you face that problem, you can use port 22 instead of port 90 and 80).

To change setting in Windows Firewall:
1. Please go to Start > Control Panel
2. Click "Windows Firewall"
3. Go to "Exceptions" tab
4. If you would like to use port 22. Click "Add Port"
5. Fill name "Port 22" and Port number "22"
6. Then, click "OK"

Now, you finish setting on your remote computer.
I almost forget to tell you one important thing.
Before you access your computer from another computer, you have to change your user account to log in automatically without entering user name and password.
As you know, you are going to access your remote computer through th Internet.
If your window needs to fill name and password, your computer will not connect Internet at that stage.
Therefore, you cannot connect your remote computer.

1. Please go to Start > Run
2. Type "control userpasswords2"
3. When your user account have a tick in the check box, please make untick

Now you can access your computer from another computer.

1. Go to remote desktop connection
2. Click "Options>>", for more detail

To connect your remote computer:
1. Please go to Start > Accessories> Communications> Remote Desktop Connection
2. In "Computer", you have to fill your remote computer's ip address and port 22 (for example: 10.0.0.0:22 )
3. In "User name", fill your remote computer log in user name.
4. In "Password", please fill your password
5. Then, click "Connect"

To set up other setting:
Before you connect your computer,
1. In "Display", you can change the Resolution Color. If you choose HighColor, the connection will be SLOW.
2. In "Local Resources", you can manage to listen songs, access disk drives, manage printers, etc
3. In "Experience", you can manage Desktop background, etc. If you wish to see your background, the connection will be SLOW.

Good Luck!

Thank you very much for cheering me up. You make me post a good topic more. Your word is more than an award or the credit you gave. You make my day bright. Oh yes, you are right: this is not my real ip address. Those images were recorded by me for myself when my friend taught me this last year. Later, I gave those images to other friends and taught them how to set it up. Everyone is happy for using this. So, I decide to post this images with instruction to help all users. If everyone is happy, I'm also happy for that. laugh.gif Thank you all

Thanks for sharing of your great experiecne.
Some addition to me would be for some users they will be using PPPoE dialup.
Their Internet connect address would be dynamaic assigned by ISP provider.
So, the address would be change periodically. Make it hard to use Remote Desktop connection.
They could go sign-up some dns services that allowed the ipaddress updated regular by a small utility
so that made the connection from client to remote computer possibe.

Here is some;

Hi all,

If your computer has to enter the BIOS password, you should change your settings. I know setting BIOS password is more secure but to use Remote Desktop Connection. You should provide the following 3 conditions:

1. The computer or laptop has an Internet Connection
2. The power is on (24 hours)
3. The computer has to boot without any barrier or password such as BIOS password

Clearing the BIOS password depends on what BIOS your computer has.

Hey there everybody! I need some help. Here's the problem. I have a Linksys Wireless WRT54G
v5 router, which, I think, is acting up. First of all, I can't get port forwarding to work!
About three month ago my port forwarding was working flawlessly, I could use download clients like
DC++, or BitComet, or have an ftp server running, etc... Now, whichever ports I use, nothing seems
to work. Plus, in clients like DC++ where you're connected to several hubs, the connection to
