manufacturer specs list it as 64 MB max.
my bios will set it to 128 MB.
will this destroy the card?
Compaq support says yes, several techs said no.

No, in the bios you can change the setting "AGP Aperture", setting it to 128mb should be fine, but if you have a large amount of memory (512+) it should be alright to raise this to 256mb. I am not certain on this - so do some research.
Aperture size is not the amount of memory on the graphics card
