in this topic i hope to be comparing the -Price -Size -Memory -Video Playback -Music Playback -Games -Accesories of the Sony PSP and the iPod video Most comparissons online seem to be between the Nintendo Ds and the PSP but i tend to think this is unfair as the PSP has not been designed for the Sole purpose of Gaming, whereas the Ds is. I own a video Ipod and my brother owns a PSP so i have personally tested both products. Ok lets start with the price. According to Amazon.com the PSP costs £179.99, including "Memory Stick, Battery Pack, Headphones, Demo Disc and More". The video iPod however costs £210.22 , and the package contains the standard iPod earphones and a single USB connection for both charging and transferring music. The extra £30 is only a small difference to pay considering the overall price, but £30 could still buy you an extra Game or DVD for your PSP. Both products are fairly expensive however and a mere thirty quid seems unimportant when you are planning on spending so much already. I will compare the resst later, but at the moment i cant be bothered. Also i need to get something to eat...

well.. this is what i think PSP: Pro: Bigger Screen (play anime with subtitle and you could still read it) High resolution Play game mp3 pictures Con: low battery than ipod Memory cost alot less memory Video ipod (well.. i never seen one.. yet but this is what i think of it) Pro: More space play mp3 Could be used as an external hdd Smaller than psp Con: smaller screen (i dont' think subtitle could be read) Well... i don't know if i would spend $200+ buying either of those. Since i already have an mp3 player, i dont' need to have an ipod .. even though it would be nice to have one. I would rather spend it on a laptop. =P. you could do many more things with it. I don't walk around much, so i dont' really need an ipod. Game get boring really fast for me..so psp would be a waste of money. That's why i would rather get a laptop =P.

I think the Ipod is better. But on PSP you can play games. Here is a comparisition of wich whoa re the best: -Price: Ipod is cheaper. -Size: Ipod (Is much smaller and not so have as PSP) -Memory: Ipod (On PSP you need to buy an external very expansive Memory Stick pro duo card, Ipod have it build in (memory) -Video Playback: I do not know, but Ipod can play Movies: http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5668.html, perhaps the PSP is better becouse it have a much bigger screen. -Music Playback: Ipod (PSP need a card) -Games: PSP, Ipod can not play games?? -Accesories: I think PSP, but i am not sure. -Battery: Do you play games, watch movies or listening on music? 2-12 hours on PSP. Ipod is much more. But PSP have many other advantages, such as bigger screen, can play games and watch UMD movies. I suggest the Ipod.

i dont think these two products are even in the same category. First of all, how many people carry their psp around to listen to music? Not very many. Secondly, how many people carry around their ipod to watch a movie on it. Not very many. An ipod is mainly used for listening to music while one has to walk to class, run, or travel, etc. Not to watch a movie since the screen is sooo small and who has the time in a day to watch a movie when they arent at home anyway. A psp is used by a different class of people. They carry it around to play games before class, traveling, etc. and not for music or even movies. So in the end these are two separate products in separate categories so they shouldnt be compared.

I have a Play Station Portable and I've seen the Video Ipod I would rather have the PSP becuase of all the games and movies and music The Ipod has the same, but you get more out of the PSP. like you can go online if you are around a place that has a wireless router You can also buy bigger memory sticks for the PSP and you can put just as much songs on your ipod as your PSP So I would rather buy a PSP than and Ipod

Its hard to choose one over the other. i like the psp because it got more stuff like gmaes, movies, music, and wireless internet. but a psp cant really fit in your pocket like an ipod does. but then again, a psp is not supposed to fit your pocket. hmmm..... psp.

QUOTE(stlgoalie @ Feb 17 2006, 05:10 PM) The ipod, can't play games (other than someone managed to port DOOM I to the system....so go figure)
Actually someone ported a linux distro to the iPod and remapped the keys for doom and installed it that way. Last I checked, Video iPod cannot support iPod linux. I have an iPod nano and a PSP. Personally, I use the nano daily. 4gigs is more than enough for music (I have 3 gigs and use 1 gig for a portable HD). The psp, I use maybe 3 days a week. I have a 256mb mem stick for movies (and some homebrew, but we won't discuss that here), 6 games or so and family guy volume 1. The battery life isn't *that* bad. I turned brightness down to the lowest setting and used headphones and watched the entire first volume of family guy in 2 charges. Currently, to get the same storage, you'd need between 10 and 30 2gb Memory sticks, depending on your flavor of iPod. Now, with the compression rates for the psp videos, you can cram hours onto a mem stick. With my 256mb memstick, I have all my save games, 10 songs or so and a full 2 hour movie. One thing with the PSP, if you're into open source/homebrew development, Sony is constantly trying to kill it. Also, iPods HD do wear out. And the battery costs $65 to replace. All in all, if you want games, get a psp. If you want video with (tiny) built in speakers, get a psp or a DS. If you want massive amounts of music and movies on a tiny screen, get the video ipod. (Yes, I do know the increased size there.) ...there's also a 1gb ipod nano for $150 I saw in a microcenter ad. I dunno how reliable it is though

You know, these products would kinda overlap on a vin diagram, but not by much. Yes the PSP can play music and videos, but it's main function is playing games. The ipod, can't play games (other than someone managed to port DOOM I to the system....so go figure), but is designed for people who commute a lot to and from work. I know when I lived in Europe I would have loved to had such a system. Especially where I could have downloaded some of my favorite TV programs, like Battlestar Galactica, the day after it aired in the states. Yeah, the screen size might be small, but I can also play the video on my iBook as well, so... However, I'll will bet real money that Apple sells more video iPods than sony does PSP's because there is just a broader market for the iPods.

Personnally I think that a PSP is better if you want games, but overall I find the the iPod video is better because of the longer battery life and MP3 playback. You can also resize DVDs and put them into Quicktime format with Cocktail-A Program for importing DVDs. Just google, Cocktail-Its freeware.
