Mac: PRO1. using it make me feel like driving a Mercedez. Very solid feel. 2. Hardware and software were built for each other so, no conflicts stuff. 3. easy interface, it so easy it confuses Windows users sometime. 4. You can be sure that OS and its hardware will be develop by the people who really care about quality. 5. Many quality shareware and freeware check out: versiontracker.com Mac: Con1. let me think... 2. .... 3. i give up. Windows pro1. easy to find every software you want. 2. i can use Dragon speech with it. 3. .....hmm..... that's about it. Windows Con1. using it make me feel like driving a cheap toyota. (nothing is bad about Toyota but it feels like that to me). 2. you have to wait for service pack, pack after pack so your pc can work normally. 3. when error happens Windows will blame you instantly. 4. i feel sorry for PC maker who build very great machines but have to stick with Windows. 5. you don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow.

I love the stability of UNIX systems. I used Mac once so i cannot say much about it. But comparing Windows and Linux or Solaris, Windows is really unestable and slow. I also love hacking the linux kernel and soft, i learned a lot using this OS and i noticed that 2 months after using it i had learnt more than having used Windows for 10 years. The only con i found to linux is that most of the soft is designed for Win, but now that wine is gonna release their stable version with full support for office and Adobe products i thinks that they have take over of that problem of compatibility. Regards PD: The linux distro i am using is Debian

one more thing, why Windows takes up so much PC resources. When install Mac OS X you see beautiful GUI right away. With Mac even 10.4.11 run smoothly on 400 Mhz CPU! nough said.

Windows & Linux
Pros And Cons Of Mac, Windows, And Linux
I used to Dual boot Windows Vista (pre-installed) and Linux, but as of right now I just can't go back to Vista or Windows for that matter. I have a laptop with Onboard Intel Card, which is fully supported in Linux! One of the problems I had in XP was a wireless card on Desktop (Dlink 510G). Windows would drop the connection several times a day and was still saying I was connected (Lie!) After I got the card working in Linux using windows drivers through an emualtior, I had better signal, and the connection was NEVER dropped! This is very useful for me cause I often leave the computer running with a torrent client. I can't do this in Windows! (BTw, I used WPA encryption which is not supported by the D-link applicaiton) Then there is software. I really like Celestia (FOSS app, that I use on linux), I don't know / can't find Windows version. There are many other apps I use on Linux (Amarok, Dictionary, etc) that I don't have on Windows, or they are too cumbersome to install. In Linux I just go to Add/Remove and select what I want, then click OK and that's it! Plus, Windows has only one desktop and I just hate that I can't scroll (mouse wheel) on inactive windows in Windows. Also Vista has disabled the "Insert Key" where it replaces the text when you type. I am no fanatic, but I like to do stuff the way I like it, and Windows just annoys me. One alst thing, did you know you have to "hack XP registry" to get it to use your RAM properly if you have more than 1 GB??? By default XP will only use up to 1 GB of RAM unless an app like a game needs more, the rest is SWAPPED like crazy! -reply by Alex

Want to help me learn Linux? (9) Hey there folks, it's about time that I got into Linux! I see a lot of Linux people here on
Trap17 and I've always been fascinated by it, but have never successfully installed it, so I
thought I'd take this opportunity to test the waters and have a go at getting it running on one
of my machines, with YOUR help. This is a fun way to post some quality, meaningful posts on the

Maclin
Linux on a Mac (0) Why are there no good distributions of Linux for Macs? I have a MacBook with Mac OSX Tiger, Windows
XP, Windows Vista, and OpenSuSE 11.0 on it. I wrote a post here on how to accomplish this.
However, OpenSuSE works horribly on Mac. Is it completely Mac's proprietary fault, or is it
just that most Linux users in their right minds would never pay for a Mac when they could build a
Linux-friendly machine for pennies in comparison? I use a Mac for many reasons. First of all, I
love it. Secondly, I have a website that I like to check with a variety of environments. ....
Windows Xp Sp2 Restarting After Some Time
(6) Hi , I dont know what happened but My system restarts after a few Minutes (at max an hour). Can
someone guess what might be wrong. It displays a System Shutdown Timer (initiated by
Administrator) and then restarts after 60 sec. This is an SP2 so I dont think its a blaster. I
have a ZoneAlarm Security Suite and it didn't detect anything. I even Scanned my Windows folder
from Kaspersky using my Second OS (Vista) but that also didn't detect anything . .. Any guesses

Creating A Shortcut List Near The System Tray
Time saver tip for windows (4) Are you bored at work today? Here's a small enhancement to your desktop. Hope you like it. I)
When you have to open any program you have to click "Start" "All Programs" and then choose your
selection from the programs folder. Now how would it be to achieve the same task in just two clicks?
You can save all your favourite program shortcuts in a folder and view that through a tiny arrow
near the system tray. Its very simple. You would tell, "Ya, I almost knew that". Here's how to
do it. a) First create your folder and add the shortcuts you want to access. The f....

Windows Vista Installation Fails
(3) Hello. I tried Installing Windows Vista Home Premium today, but when it comes to the part
of the Installation where it says "Your computer will restart several times" my computer restarts
more then 40 times, and never loads after that. After like, 10-15 minutes of it being off, I switch
it back on, and it restores to XP (Witch is good because it wouldn't start up at all). I've
tried installing this 4 times altogether, and nothing. it keeps restarting continuously more then 40

Can Anyone Recommend A Light Linux Distro?
(10) I'm looking for a light linux distro, but something decent, that will only run on about 128-256
ram, CPU 1.8GHz, that has office (probably open office or abiword) that won't need more than
about 2-4GB hard drive. (Something like puppy linux) Just to run in an emulator. I'm asking
because there might be a killer distro out there that I haven't heard of or found that someone
might know about. If not puppy linux will be great for it. Thanks....
How Many Times Do You Reinstall Windows In A Year
There goes some useful tips about it. (19) I reinstall (restore) windows almost every 2-3 months. What about you??? Seeing the title some would
say "I do it daily" and some others "How to reinstall?". Let's see the poll results. Linuxers,
see you in other post. Reinstalling windows is a daily chore for the students studying computers.
They have to switch a lot of softwares, compilers etc etc. Windows as we know, will not tolerate a
whole lot of (Un)installations and will ultimately slow down the whole system. This is not the case
with Linux. Just consider this, I installed Red Hat WS 3(the older version whi....

Windows Xp: Explorer.exe Crashes On Certain Accounts
(5) I share a Windows XP computer with two friends, and we each have our own User Account on the
computer. Recently whenever my friends use the PC, they begin to have problems with it. For no
reason whatsoever, Windows Explorer will crash and close all the current folders that are open. I
went onto their User Accounts to see for myself (with permission, of course), and found that

(48) I first tried Linux a few years ago, not because I was completely against Windows or anything like

very user friendly and Windows-like. After reading through a bunch of message boards and learning
which distros are good for what, I soon realized my current distro was great for Linux noobs. So
then I decided to try something a little more advanced like Slackware which I knew had a steep
