a cpu IS a processor.
Macs don't have cpus = LOL !
Every computer has a CPU = Central Processing Unit.
Most of the comments on this thread are NOT correct.
The use of one or two processors being used is controlled TOTALLY by the hardware . . . The programs do NOT know how many processors they are running on.
64-bit or 32-bit IS only controlled by the SOFTware program . . . Depending on what platform is was compile under ... So, older programs will run the same speed on 64-bit or 32-bit platforms, but will run faster on Dual-Core. -reply by Johnny |

Processor Modes
(1) QUOTE Processor modes refer to the various ways that the processor creates an operating
environment for itself. Specifically, the processor mode controls how the processor sees and manages
the system memory and the tasks that use it. There are main three different modes of operation. The
8088 chip could only address 1 MB of system memory, and the original versions of Disk Operating
System created to work on it were designed with this in mind. This is called real mode. When a
processor is running in real mode, it has the advantage of speed, but it otherwise accesses ....

Processor Dilemma Possible Solution, But Looking For Feedback Though
(2) This question is based off a class discussion I am having but always looking to seek more feed from
others, so here is the original version of that discussion, mind you I am talking about the book
when concern with page reference so you might have to look up some of these terms if you don't
know them. With that being said I need people with hardware experience to answer this, any posts
that say take this processor or that one without going into detail will be considered off topic and
will be reported. A friend of mine ask me to help him pick out some parts, of cou....
Overclocking My Processor N Motherboard
Did some crazy overclocking here (3) ok, I know that I have quite a number of real crazy overclockings before. like clocking a 2.4GHz
Pentium IV processor to rum at 3.6 GHz (Woooow). That is a kool 50% overclocking and guess what?
Everything was still normalk even after the crazy overclocking....Can you believe that. I do
respect the Intel Northbridge chipsets as they really allow you to do some very kool clocking to
your processor, RAM and Northbridge. I have used a number of Pentium IV class processors and
motherboards (6 pairs to be exact) within a quite a very short interval of time (within the past 1 ....
My Video Card: Dual-monitors?
(4) Here's the url to the video card I currently have installed on my computer:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=1560 This PCI Express card has ports for 1-VGA
and 1-DVI monitor. The card states that it features Dual-monitors so what I'm wondering is that
if I connect 1 VGA monitor simultaenously with a DIV monitor on ONE video card, would I be able to
use both? Thus, giving me dual-monitors?....
Intel Cuts Prices
(0) Intel has cut the prices of its core2 duo processors again despite its profits falling as a result
of this price war. The 2.8 Ghz E6700 has been made cheaper by 40% and E6600 by 30%. But with
AMD's Barcelona chip around the corner, we can expect more price cuts. So PC buyers everywhere a
wait is advised.....
8-core Mac Pro
(5) The eagle-eyed folks over at MacRumors spotted an advertisement on Apple's UK store that showed
an eight-core Mac Pro desktop. Presumably the Macintosh would use two Intel Quad-core chips. Apple
has since removed the ad from the store website. Rumors that Apple would incorporate two of
Intel's Quad-core chips into a Mac Pro to produce an 8-core Mac Pro have been gongoing since
late last year. Now that is a powerhouse... I bet it friggin' flys! Good show Peevles, I luff

Need Some Help With Dual Monitors...
(2) Hey there, well i had a dual monitor set up which i used to run perfectly. I have a monitor that
runs 1680x1050, thats my main display. I had a 17 inch which i ran 1024x768 I think, i am not really
sure, I had a friend set it up for me a long time ago, and now he moved and I don't talk to him
anymore. The problem i had was that I tried to add a bigger monitor a 19 inch i believe, I couldnt
get that to work either, but I figured it was to much, and my 17 inch was fine for what I was doing.
Now the problem I have now, is that I am trying to add the 17 inch back, and ....

Amd Or Intel?
(7) Another question... I have been trying to choose between an AMD (left one) processor or an Intel
(right one). I have been customizing both of them to find the lowest price. If I choose an Intel,
I will have the 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600 Video Card. If I choose an AMD, I will have the
128MB ATI RADEON® XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory Video Card. What will the difference be if I
choose the AMD over the Intel? Is this a good idea or not? I have never had an AMD computer so I am
not sure. Basically, will it effect me if I choose the AMD, I'm not doing any ....

Dual Core Dilemma
in notebooks (13) I have been looking at notebook computers, and have noticed that appears to be the latest in power
boosting, the dual core. Now I was wondering a few things about a dual core. Firstly, If the
description says 1.67 gHz dual core, is that the equivalent of having two 1.67 ghz processors, or
two 800ish mHz processors? Secondly, If I had the choice of getting a note book with a 2.2 gHz
processor, or a 2 gHz dual core processor, all other specs are the same, which would be the better
deal? And lastly, for now, I understand that WinXP Pro is required when you have two process....

Laserjets Verses Inkjets
Pros and Cons+is refilling a good option (2) So i am getting a laser printer free with my monitor, so i reckoned i might write about how lasers
compare with their inky counterparts , these are things i know Laserjet--- a laser shines onto a
drum, the drum gets charged, attracts toner, and is applied to paper at high temperature and
pressure. Thats why the paper is warm when it comes out. Pros - Faster printing Better Quality
Ideal for high volume printing Most have inbuilt bigger buffer memory Cons- Expensive Toner
expensive Colour versions really expensive verdict - Ideal for Office or SOHO and also if you ha....

Hard time for Intel to make bussiness decisions (2) QUOTE SAN FRANCISCO (Business 2.0 Magazine) - Much to Wall Street's dismay, Intel is
continuing to invest billions of dollars in Itanium, a chip that most of the industry has written
off. Itanium, Xeon, Woodcrest and Opteron Itanium introduced after ten years in 2001, with no
64-bit software to run and its crappy performance for 32-bit software is already cost a lot to
Intel. AMD took the advantage and with its Opteron chip in 2003 which ran both 32-bit and 64-bit
software. Intel’s effort to adapt a 32-bit chip to run 64-bit software also (Xeon) is no good....

consumers what brand of chip to ask for inside a personal computer, Intel Corp. has decided it's
out with the old "Intel Inside" campaign in favor of a new logo and tag line that includes the
phrase "Leap ahead." The logo and tag line will be formally announced on Tuesday. As part of

Amd Vs. Intel For Laptop

the AMD compare with the Intel Centrino for the low power heat? Also for games, would the Intel
Centrino or AMD be my choice. kservice....

Apple Decided For Intel?
(11) Some time ago news came out, that Apple is breaking a contract with IBM company, which has till now
produced all the processors for all of the apple personal computers. Now roomers became reality and
Intel is becomin a new official processor supplier for Apple. Till the summer 2006 processors in
computers for less-demanding users (eMac, Mac Mini, ...) will be replaced and somewhere in the
middle of 2007 Intel chips are goin to be in the Power versions of Macintoshs also. It is
interesting, if Apple will change to x86 and follow the rest of PC manufacturers (Dell, HP, IB....
