And he said today he will need surgery after the season to repair his labrum.
"There's no discomfort," said Posada, in the first season of a four-year, $52.4 million contract. "Something's messed up in there (the shoulder). We're going to have to get that fixed."
Posada, a five-time All-Star, said it should be similar to surgery he had in November 2001; he was ready for camp the following spring.
Pitcher Dan Giese was optioned to Triple A to open a roster spot for Posada.
This trip to the disabled list was the first of his career. Posada last played April 26; since then, the Yankees have gone 16-17.

Posada just got a new three year deal this past winter. he likely will still be a great hitter, but the question of the future still remains. With giambi leaving after this year the DH spot will be freed up. 1B is also an option
