| | Hello everyone! I just came back from a trip to Seattle (band trip), and I thought to myself... yuck, my piano improvisation is so bad I can't even play happy birthday on the spot. (Of course, give me any written version and I can play it despite the level of difficulty!)
My problem is: I can't inprovise jazz, and it's crucial for jazz players to know how to improvise.
Can someone please help me? Either tips, links to tips or software for improv is good enough. The only thing I know is how to use 1-3-5-7 chord notes to make a bad jazz solo, which I don't get solos since I can't improvise .
Thanks for anyone's help. (I don't need tips on playing piano, and I know 4 part harmony so tell me jazzy stuff ) |

Any "silent Movie" Music?
Some nice piano ones would work (0) Hi everyone! I'm making a "Charlie Chaplin" silent movie for my english project (yes,
it's even black and white)... I'm just wondering if anyone knows any good piano music or
classical ones to put in one of those films. It would be great if someone recommended a site too.
Thanks!....
Jazz/funk Recommendations
(1) Ok well in the Jazz/Funk forums - all we get is "What's some good Funk" or "Recommend me Jazz"
all the time and it just feels like your repeating yourself everyday. Well to make sure this
doesn't happen again - I have made this thread so that everyone can post their favourite
funk/Jazz artists followed by songs that you would recommend. Also feel free to put in as much extra
info on the artist as you wish eg. recommended albums, bio, why you like the artist, if you like
this artist you'll probably like.....etc etc. Also state what genre the artist fits into.....
Favorite Band Jazz
(2) There are some bands that I feel simply could do no wrong. I'm assuming you all have some that
are just perfect for your tastes, as well. Of course, a Coltrane session is a Coltrane session, et
cetera, but this thread is about really tight, exceptional BANDS. Here are some of mine: Miles
Davis' 1950s Quintet Miles Davis - tpt John Coltrane - tsax Red Garland - p Paul Chambers - b
Philly Joe Jones - d Bill Evans Trio Bill Evans - p Scott LaFaro - b Paul Motian - d Art
Blakey's Jazz Messengers from 1958 Lee Morgan - tpt Benny Golson - tsax Bobby Timmons - ....
Jazz??
Anybody here a jazz fan? (15) I've been playing jazz for many years and am also a very big fan of the genre. I was wondering
if anybody else here is and who there favourite artists are. Mine personally would be Miles Davis
(who else...) Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus....
