Peer Pressure Bites

Albus Dumbledore
Ok, well homecomming is coming around the corner soon, and almost everyone in the school know's who i like, and that this person likes me back (we both know this) and they are like trying to hmm, how should i put this.... pressure us to go to homecoming together... and i would but there are a few problems

A) i dont dance.. never can/could//will be able to

B.) Her dad doesn't want her dating, nor seeing any guys

C) i want to live to my 16th b-day (her dad would kill any boy she goes out with)

well, they just keep saying so, who cares what her dad says go with her to homecomming, i do not know why, but they are just begging us to go to homecomming together and its getting a bit annoying. sleep.gif

basicly, peer pressure sucks.. eventhough im not going to cave into it, it sucks

Congradulations on standing up to peer pressure, Albus. While most of that's behind me, I can remember how painful it can be.

Now, being a hopeless, HOPELESS romantic, I can see why your friends would like you to go out with her and be happy. But if you're not comfortable with it, stand your ground.

Personally, I suggest going to the homecoming (Stag), just for the experience. You don't have to stay there the whole time, but it's still a major event in your life, and even if you don't dance it's fun to be there with your friends.

And if you and this girl just HAPPEN to get out on the dance floor and move around (Not dancing, of course... Just... Moving...) to a fast song... *giggles*

Sorry, I'll force my hopeless romantics to back off. ^-^

Peer pressure is a beeyatch but with your age and where youre at in school ( being middle or high school) youre lucky these kids are just trying to get you to go to a dance with a girl. Most kids are offering the pressure on sex, violence, drugs, criminal activity, and Lord only knows what else. Count yourself lucky. They could be wanting more. Just do what you feel and let them know thats where you stand. If they dont like it tell em to go fly a really big kite in a really small spot.

It is difficult to cope up with peer pressure. Especially if you are somebody with a low esteem. There is one easy way to make peer pressure go away, that is to have a belief in yourself and the fact that you are an individual who has no equal in the world. This belief , if you can strongly bear in your mine, will help you overcome any sort of pressure. The second thing to remember is that whatever your peers do, they cannot be you.

Why don't both of you just go to the dance, on your own not together? If you end up dancing, thats great, but because you go seperate if you both don't dance together, it wont be the end of the world. Its really the only advice i have for the situation, sorry. As for peer pressure just ignore them, because in my experience, when people work so hard to put two people together, theres something more than just wanting to see the two to be together, theres some evil plot going on in their heads.

It really doesn't sound much like peer pressure if a girl's involved, honestly. There's alot of deeper things, including how many of them were basically trying to pair you both together. Either way, it's not that important. Do it if you want to, don't do it if you don't want to. If it's up until your 16th birthday, not much you do at that stage socially will count in the long run. Not unless if you knock a person up, but that's another story. Either here or there, just go for it if you like her. Live while you're still alive. Life's not that long.

i dont want to argue, i just want to do this for the posting, but peer pressure is when obviouisly your peers pressure you to do somthing, or try somthing, and in this case a group of my peers are pressuring me to go out with a girl that i like and who likes me back. so anywho biggrin.gif

and you have mydol? hehe jk

Did you read my post? Honestly. Peer pressure isn't that big of a deal to put on a production about. That's what I said. I didn't say you caved into it, did I? Alright. Just checking you're actually seeing the same post I am. It was "hate", not "have". It could've been a typographical error, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Either way, I'll now have to say while we're on the topic of peer pressure since nobody knows better. Back on the mark, it's far too often that I see people caving into peer pressure. No, this isn't your stereotypical after school special. They cave into what their friends want ALOT. I've seen people switch sports teams, hobbies, and music genres and that's only for starters. I really don't get why it's this giant undefeatable social force for many. Your friends like a different genre of music. So what?

Just to prevent people from spurting into their time of the month, I'll comment on the first post in here. ( I don't have enough mydol to hand out. )

  5. Peer-to-peer
An article I wrote for my college mag (15)
What is peer-to-peer? Peer-to-peer (better known as P2P sharing) is an advanced
networking system that is way different from the client-server model. What is the client-server
model? Well, any damn website is the best example of a client-server model. We, as visitors, are the
clients who request the server to show the webpage. So it basically is a one-to-one correspondence.
The client requests a page and the server obliges. The same logic applies for sharing a file. If you
want to download a software, say ‘Google talk’, you go to the Google pag....

new phone technology : peer-to-peer phone service (2)
Ooma has created a peer-to-peer phone service intended to eliminate long-distance costs. They do
this by having Ooma devices in homes. When you make a long distance call, the ooma device sends your
voice over the internet to the ooma device of the person you are calling. The call then connects to
the local telephone line and tricks it into thinking its a local call. A genius idea. Very cool to
see people are trying new things. The only down side is that the caller and the person that is being
called both have to have this device. Ooma plans to charge $399 for each ....

primarily relies on lists of IP ranges which it deems to be malicious. Right after I started Peer
Guardian, I found that I could not connect to Trap17 or my Trap17-hosted site. My Peer Guardian log
