| | Well I've been using OpenOffice about two or three years now (started in college, since most of the units there use OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office). I think what I appreciated most with OpenOffice is the capability of exporting the document into PDF's. It really helped me during my thesis days since most of my documents were required to be in PDF form.
Thanks for the update. Will upgrade my version soon. |

It is good to know that a new and better version is out, and like i said, i am always interested to know of new updates to the software i usually use, and so thanks for sharing the news, the good news actually, i am going to download the new version right now.

I don't know if it is true or not but as I am reading several computer scince based newspaper one of them reported that Microsoft is sueing open office for the patent or something similar to that. As I said I am not certain whether it is true or not. However they are making their accusattions probable as they said that open office in fact copied architecture and more over interface of the microsoft's office and this is true however I haven;t find any data after that and no other news came. So in fact I don't know what happened in the last few years microsoft is protecting their products more then ever. Eventhough I must note that they are playing good guy in recent months after Vista hitting stores and so on.

I've got to say, as a past user, OO has MAJOR bugs! For instance, in Impress (PowerPoint) the master backgrounds and colors for fonts don't work when you switch back to regular slides, then you've got Writer and 1/2 the time the font color changer doesn't work... There's a whole list of bugs that they haven't fixed, if I were you, just go and buy Office...

That is the main problem of the open software support because they mostly don't provide support for their products and what is more important they don't provide good support over prolonged time. What is the point here Microsoft's products will be here ten years from now and if you educate your people for their products you can excpect that these costs will not repeat in ten years time which is long time and is cost effective. However if you are using open software noone guarantees to you that the same products will be there in ten years that is the main reasons why coorporation never I repeat never use open source software if they are about to use it then they go and buy pro version or whatever part you are about to find that is maybe open source but it is not freeware. P.S. I understand thedifference between freeware and opensource however as this is not discussion about it I will not go in details there.

problem with open office is that the spelling is wrong sometimes,although i jus can't figure out why they use incorrect spelling 8-) but otherwise the free factor makes it appealing

I just downloaded this when I tried it out on my Ubuntu Live CD. It is a great alternative to MS Office and I recommend switching. It is more powerful than MS Office in the way that it can export as PDF and save as .doc, .html, and .odt which is the OpenOffice format. The program also has a fairly similar GUI to MS Office and of course it is free. I enjoy it very much.

Is it ok? (37) I found out that AVG Free version isn't eliminating even trojan viruses. I only have this free
