| | A few months ago, while i was visiting some harware hackers store, I noticed they got a new OS, call Microsoft Longhorn XP, and it actually worked as an add on to microsoft window XP, It has a kool design though, But I am not sure, as microsoft did not release anything officially about a new windows called so. |

They haven't released it yet. Yes, Longhorn is going to be released as the next OS after XP. Instead of having "XP Home" and "XP Pro", they're going to have the "2000" series OSs and the "XP" OSs. Longhorn most likeley won't be called that when released, it's just the code name. Anyways, Since Longhorn is a closed BETA, meaning you're not going to be able to use it unless microsoft let's you, I don't want thins thread branching off to people talking about where to get it (Unless microsoft itself provies the link). AIGHT!? ...I'm watching you.

You abuse Microsoft, yet you happily use their products? Sounds slightly hypocritic to me.

Ok, just an added info, there is a far-future version of Microsoft's OS called Blackcomb, in the works (According to PC World magazine). If ever you're wondering where on earth did they get those code names, Whistler (codename of XP), and Blackcomb are named after ski areas in British Columbia, Canada while Longhorn is name after a bar popular among Microsoft big guns. Just as the Longhorn Saloon & Grill sits between these two mountains, MS's Longhorn will ship between Whistler(XP) and Blackcomb.

my friend downloaded it for almost 2 weeks...lol. unfortunately, it can't be used because of the big specs...and because they plan it to release on 2005-or 2006, it means that computers will be upgraded that time. well... lets see... in the future.

QUOTE Other third-party software can do that easily, without the bugs too. And your admin can't debug it by themselves, unless they have explicit permission, because that's a violation of most commercial software copyrights, the primary distinction as oppose to "open-source." If what u said is just true, they would have stopped palm playstation from developing his handheld from a long time, but, how do u think are they going to know.

I have a very irregular comic strip that I make, and I want my next strip to be in the spirit of

here, based on whether people think an operating system is better than Windows 2000 or not, which
I'm going to use as a benchmark (sea-level point) for rating systems. The rating system is on 3
axes, "usefulness", "reliability", and "security". Basically, for the poll, check which ones you
think are more useful than Windows 2000 on the first poll, which ones are more reliable ...

Linux - Why It Fails As A Desktop Operating System?
- (34)
Linux is becoming such a craze nowadays that not even a single day passes without one or other
distribution releasing a new version. But why is it failing so miserably in the desktop arena. The
answer lies in three reasons. 1. The plethora of distributions -
Redhat,Debian,Ubuntu,Suse,Gentoo,Knoppix - everbody and his uncle is coming out with new ones. 2.
The lack of backward compatibility - I had Redhat 7.3 running. I upgraded to Redhat 9. Many
applications had to be recompiled. You ask my mom to recompile applications - She will throw out
Linux and take Windows anyday. ...

Lament About Windows' Automatic Updates
- Microsoft Windows Automatic Update Levels (1)
(I've always wondered why...) ...Windows always employs a "you don't need to know what
you're getting" attitude with its updates. By default, updates are set to be automatic, in the
name of "protecting your computer from exploits" (I call this Level 3 automatic updates). With
Level 3, everything is automatic. Windows automatically downloads and installs the updates, and then
turns off your computer in 5 minutes if you don't postpone it. This is the most annyoing level,
in my opinion. I set it to Level 2 (download, but don't install yet) myself. This...

I think Linux sweeping the world was a bit of a premature prediction (what everyone in relatively
intellectual circles was saying in the late 90's and very early 2000's). Microsoft with a
true oligopoly that has crushed the chances of any third party OS, like BeOS, one of the most
promising OSes of the 90's IMHO. Linux and Unix really need a serious internal structural revamp
(like the NT system does of course), perhaps even a change to a server based OS; I guess that would
sort of be a total rewrite of all the code though Copied from "Olorix" on http://fo...
