| | What the title says. What's the stupidest and most asinine statement you've ever heard from a Christian?
The pastor at the church my mother drags me too has said some truly dumb things in the past, to the point where I was both pissed off and saddened about the religion. Here are a few (paraphrased).
A. "People say that the pastor brainwashes people. They're right. My job as a pastor is to wash your brain."
B. "Ever since you were born, you sinned." |
Reply
The B part.. that's called original sin I believe. So when you are born, you already have sinned. It's true in the religion of Christianity and probably a few others too. The most appalling thing I've ever heard a "Christian" say is, "if you don't follow the word of God, I hope you go to Hell." Quoted directly from a certain elder person from my school. We were on the topic of some of the odd things in the Bible and she was set off her rocker. I was very shocked to say the least..

Well, since I rebelled, I think pretty much all of what they say is stupid! 'You must follow Jesus or be condemned to hell', 'God loves you', 'Worship him', 'If you are being murdered, stand there and take it, for God loves you and he will save you', f*** off, darned mongs! Just a bunch of brainwashed slaves!

My personal favorites are from a very famous christian. "Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof, the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud." "They MISUNDERESTIMATED me." "They want the federal government controlling social security like it's some kind of federal program." "The fact that he relies on facts...says things that are not factual...are going to undermine his campaign." There are too many to list! He is either the most brilliant comedian or a true idiot. I hope you guys can guess who I am talking about.

Ok my answer is somewhat generic and a conversation that every fellow athiest has been engaged in during their lives sometime: "Do you believe X is true?" "Yes." "How do you know?" "Faith/The bible" Either on of these two answers make me just walk away and shake my head as they finish the sentence. It's just to blatently ignorant.

my previous post.. yes, the infamous George Jr. As for Thoughtvoid, I'm not sure what you are trying to say in your post. Being an athiest simply means you don't believe in a higher being. Why then would you mock someone who has faith? Why is it blatently ignorant to have faith in something? You may call me ignorant for this but... I personally believe calling someone ignorant for having faith or even having religious beliefs is ignorant.

QUOTE(elaks @ Jul 29 2007, 01:43 PM) Technically they did. By saying that as a Christian as if scientists were placed by the devil; they themselves are adding to the bible, a set of rules and beliefs for Christians to follow. Well, they're not really adding much, are they? It's definitely not a valid addition, as God never wanted it there.

"They hate us for our freedom". "We're fightin' 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here". "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me......umm.....and I won't be fooled again!" "We're being welcomed there as liberators". Who else has some quotes of the great Christian Bush? I once worked for a southern Baptist Minister. He claimed that Noah's son Lot raped Noah, his own father, while Noah was sleeping in his tent drunk. God punished Lot by turning his children black, so that's where black people come from; they're the cursed descendants of Lot. He claimed it's o.k. to mistreat blacks since that's part of their curse. The minister's son used to talk about raping young black girls. He said it would be o.k. since they're not people. I've never heard a nice Christian quote the Bible. When people start quoting the Bible, it's a red flag that they're looking for biblical justification for their evil deeds. BTW- most of you above are off topic!

I was a new Christian and started to have faith in something. I had met my soul mate and wanted to get married within a few years even still we lived together. I was raped when I was 8 years old and my Pastor at this time at my new Church came round to our house and told us in no uncertain terms we were to get married straight away. He said that I wasn't to wear white dresses since this was for virgins and people who were clean. Since my soul mate and I lived together he said we were not clean. I never felt clean since that guy who raped me took that away from me at the age of 8 and since that time I had always felt unclean. I wanted to wear white, but I couldn't because of the pastor. It was everything to me my wedding day and that got taken away. My parents would have paid, but they wanted us to wait. We had no control over our wedding day because of that Pastor. He has since died and one day he will have to explain how harsh and unkind he was not just to me, but to other people in the Church because he wasn't always nice to people.

Is god worthy of worship (or 'Why I'm not a christian')
(38) This essay was inspired by the consistent assumption of Christians that if I believed the Bible were
true, I would become a Christian. There are several reasons for my non-christianism, the leading of
which is the idea of a higher power is not probable in light of current scientific data. The second
of which is I do not find the state of the world in accordance with an idea of a “loving and
merciful” higher power. Then of course there is the factor that the basis of this essay shall be
about; I do not find the Biblical God fit for worship. Over the course of this essay t....
Christian Group Stops £3,000 Cancer Donation
(6) QUOTE A cancer charity has refused a donation from Jerry Springer - The Opera after a religious
group threatened to protest. Maggie's Centres said Christian Voice's contact prompted it to
reject £3,000. Christian Voice said it had warned the charity that accepting cash from a show full
of "filth and blasphemy" would be a public relations disaster. "filth and blasphemy."

offices" Yet another example of a fundamentalist religous group taking on the role o....
