| | I recently purchaced a USR 5699b and had very bad results, I then exchanged it for another 5699b, and had even worse results, for example I actualy make a connection about 50% of the time, but of that the liklyhood of the connection working is quite slim.
Here is a screenshot of a ping google.com -t that I ran, before, during and after a connection:
How come it can make a successful connection twice, and then not be able to make the connection anymore? and this isn't a one time thing, as you can tell by the scroll bar, I have been running the ping for awile, and have gotten simmilar results every time! Sometimes only one good response! |

Believe me I have contacted the ISP here how it went: 1) We believe it is the fault of your modem, alright then I'll get a new modem 2) We have run a line test (ISP and Phone co are the same) and it appears to be above average 3)Have you unpluged any other devices using the line? YES 4)Are you untop of Virus/Spyware? YES 5)Have you tried turning off the firewall? YES 6)Have you slowed do the modem? As slow as it will go! YES 7)Have you reinstalled the OS? on a diffrent HDD YES 8)Well we're out of ideas, perhapse you should contact the manufacturer, did that three days ago, no response, also does anybody know a valid USR phone number for Canada? Now last night I discover that of the few times I make a connection about 50% of the time I can't go to Google.com, but I can go to http://216.239.37.99! It might be really slow but atleast I can go, and I can search, can't go to any of the results, don't know the IP address of them, but I can read the little description, and even view the cach!

If you just purchased a new modem 'm sure it works well Have you tried to check or contact your ISP provider? Maybe is your provider having problem not your modem. If you are using modem for your internet connection don't expect to much for the performance, it only gives you 56kbps, or less, if you want to have internet connection that fits your desired try to subscribe for DSL or cable connection m sure this will work more than your modem did and with less headache for you too... One thing I forgot, check also the security settings of you computer like firewall and security.

Long story short, been there, done that! Short story long.... 'm pretty sure this modem doesn't work, despite the newness of it "As of Wednesday June 22nd all services are functioning normaly" (quote from ISP 24h help line) Preceding to talk with a tech does no good, I restart severl time and rebild the dialer, no help. 56kbps, you're kidding me 56 I can get 56, I seem to get about 9 maybe 10kbps (bits, yes bits!) DSL, you know how many time I've said "God, why can't DLink or someone manage to remove the limit on DSL, WHY?" Well actualy that was the first time, but I've though simmilar things in the past, Believe you/me we wouldn't be having this dicussion if DSL was available in my area, infact on the same note, Cell Phone isn't really available in my are, they work, but aren't supported. You'd think admin/no firewall/IE or Firefox/No AntiVirus would be an approperiate security setting. I don't think so. My copy of XP is SP1a so I decided to reinstall on a diffrent HDD, (took a long time) and installed only 3 things above default winXP: 1)Firefox 2)Modem Drivers (Didn't even install Modem on Hold software) 3)Video Drivers (ATI cards don't work well without!)

Geforce Fx 5200 Problems
My monitor goes blank right as the Windows Welcome screen should appre (5) I hadn't been able to play the Sims 2, and I figured out it was because my video card wasn't
supported. So I went out and picked up a cheap GeForce FX 5200 ($50) and installed it in my
computer. Well as soon as I turned my computer on, everything was normal. But I noticed the
resolution was huge when it got to my desktop and when I went into Display Properties, it was the
only resolution setting there. So I figured I'd install the video card drivers that came on the
software CD. After that it prompted me to restart my computer, and when I did, everything....

Alienware Area-51m With Heat Problems
(2) I've had my laptop since October of 2004 and I've had some heat related crashes ever since
the beginning, but the crashes were few and far between, never bothered me too much and a cooling
pad seemed to take care of the problem. Unfortunatelty, this summer I am living in a rather hot room
and the crashes came back with a vengence, 2, 3 or more times a day, depending on what I am doing.
I have done a lot of reserach and tried pretty much everything from reinstalling to replacing the
thermal paste on the cpu. Nothing helped, but I noticed that neither gpu or cpu i....
New Type Of Hard Drive That Could Solve Data Problems
(4) hi guys and girls i was reading the Windows XP magazine the other day when i came accross this.
QUOTE JUST ADD WATER The computer of the future has an unusual new ingredient: water. Scientists
have discoverd that adding water to there existing nanotechnology makes it a reliable way to store
millions of gigabytes in tiny spaces: 12,800,00 can be squashed into a single square centimetre. The
system uses minuscule ferroletric wires, the magnetic polarity of which can be flipped to store
binary data. Until now they weren't stable enough to be reliable, but research....
Dropping Off-line
Any way to test a Cable Modem or Router? (2) I've been having this problem lately of dropping off-line (always on, cable access) I use to
have to cycle (unplug and replug) the Cable Modem and the Router (wired Router) in sequence to get
back on-line. So I replaced the Cable Modem and Router. Now I'm dropping offline less often, and
I can get back on by just cycling the Router. Q. Is there anyway to "test" a Cable Modem and/or
Router to see for sure where the "stoppage" is? //Captain.Jerry/....

Pci Modem
(1) How does one discover the filesystem identity which Versions 4.0, 3.9, etc. attach to an internal,
PCI dial-up modem? Is it "/dev/ttyS4" or "/dev/ttyS14" or "tts/14" or what? I have a
fully-functional hardware modem which works fine on Version 3.6 but which none of the later versions
can identify for an effective "/dev/modem" link. "lspci" lists the modem and its interrupt request
number (IRQ 10), but not its serial port identity, and "dmesg" doesn't seem to list the device
at all.....

Problems At Boot Time
(11) After installing a new 2.8 GHZ P4 my computer will not boot. All fans spin but no POST. Another
interesting fact is that my CD-ROM will not power up either (works on my old 333mhz system though).
Reading around I've learned that the problem is either: 1)mother board 2)CPU 3)PSU I have tried
it with a brand new MB but no success, still no POST. Is it possible that my cheap 425watt PSU will
not generate enough power for this new CPU (even though it successfully powered my 2GHZ celeron)?
Unfortunately, the pins on the older Celeron got bent so I cannot test with this....

Gfx Card Problems!

the loading, I understood immediately that my GFX card had problems. When my computer had loaded
