Microsoft has provided a version of the .NET Framework v3.0 for the general public.
QUOTE
The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 (formerly known as WinFX), is the new managed code programming model for Windows. It combines the power of the .NET Framework 2.0 with new technologies for building applications that have visually compelling user experiences, seamless communication across technology boundaries, and the ability to support a wide range of business processes. These new technologies are Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Communication Foundation, Windows Workflow Foundation, and Windows CardSpace (formerly code named "Infocard"). Microsoft plans to ship .NET Framework 3.0 as part of the Windows Vista operating system. In addition, Microsoft is making these technologies available on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The following Community Technology Preview of .NET Framework 3.0 enables you to continue experimenting with early builds of these technologies, get acquainted with the development experience, and provide feedback to Microsoft.
The latest developing version of .NET framework the .NET framework 3.0 RC is available for download from Microsoft website. here

It is 100% free, seriously It is already installed on all Windows Vista versions and you can download it here if you want to install it on your Windows XP mashine.
Actually .NET 3.0 is "just" .NET 2.0 extended by three subframeworks:
Windows Communication Framework (component interoperability as a substitute to webservices)
Windows Presentation Framework (allowing cool vector based controls for .net applications)
Windows Workflow Foundation (designing software systems as a business workflow)
I recently visited a few Microsoft Tech Talks and had an insight view at those technologies. Looks quite interesting and I am eager to use them for my own projects soon.
sekhar, look at the date the topic was started, this post is made to inform all the users of Trap17 about the release of the Software. We all know that we can get it in Mag Cover CD's or DVD's.
That kind of stuff has always been available from magazines, yes. But I'd rather sit here and wait the 20mins it's going to take to download rather than walk to the nearest newsagency, and spend actual money buying a magazine just for the CD it comes with.
Here are some of the new technologies coming up from Microsoft Desk... Pretty amazing stuffs which
brings about change in how we look and do computations.... Haven't personally tried any of these
products... But was able to go thru some of the reviews and user experience. Though some of them are
not really very much satisfied with them, they very much agree that its just the beginning and there
is a long way to go... Here are the list of Products.... 1. Photosynth - This is something
which many people looked for... It does comaprison of photos and enables people....
Microsoft had finally released their Windows Live Search few weeks back.Previously the Beta version

all the things with just our finders as input. When i saw its first video i was just shocked to see

QUOTE IBM has developed an optical transciver that can transfer data at a rate of 160GB/s, fast
enough to download a High-definition movie in aount one second. This was announced by IBM at the
OFC/NFOEC Conference and Exposition in California, held during the March. This technology was
developed as a part of a program sponsered by the DARPA (Defence Advanced Reserch Projects Agency)
to speed up communications between supercomputers. ....
http://labs.live.com/photosynth/blogs/ It's an interesting idea, but I really don't see
the application behind it. I mean where do you go with this. Is it a new way or browsing the web, a
new way to look at photos, a new way to waste our time and bandwidth and processing power? Maybe
it's me, but I just don't get it.....
So has anyone downloaded and tried this yet?
http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/be...en/default.mspx It's the entire suite for free
and it's really cool. It's such a huge difference from the Office 2000 I've been using
for years. It's a big 450 mb download but I think it's worth it. You have to log in to
download it but all you need is a hotmail account and you don't even need to give them legit
info or anything. I just put in garbledy gook for all fields besides email. The installer is fairly
smart and will remove previous versions....
QUOTE The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office agreed earlier this week to a request by the Public
Patent Foundation to review a controversial patent that Forgent Networks has been attempting to
enforce through lawsuits with dozens of companies, including Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, Sun, RIM and
Google. Forgent acquired the rights to the JPEG compression patent through a 1997 purchase of
Compression Labs, however it did not start asserting its ownership and demanding licensing for the
patent until a year ago. Full article : http://www.betanews.com/article/USPTO_to....

will launch free spreadsheet and word-processing software online and take on Microsoft in one of its
biggest markets. Under the deal, Google will allow web users to access Sun's OpenOffice from a

I can't believe this... Here are some of the interesting excerpts: QUOTE Emoticons have
acquired immense popularity and hence importance in new email, chatroom, instant messaging, and even
operating system applications. The variety of available emoticons has increased tremendously, from a
few types of "happy faces" to a multitude of elaborate and colorful animations. In many cases, an
increase in the number of available emoticons has been a selling feature for new releases of
communications products. However, there are now so many emoticons available that som....

Micrsoft confirmed what we've already expected. The new-coming explorer IE 7 will only be
compatible with windows XP and newer. The two reasons why old dinosaurs that still use Windows 2000
and lower won't be able to use the new IE are: 1. state in which is the extended support of
Windows 2000 and 2. mostly of technical nature (IE 7 is goin to have a few security updates and
imporvements, which bases on the functionality of the new XP SP2 and this is the reason for its
incompatibility with other versions of Windows) Source: Slashdot ....

here is this idea http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/trims.as...src=VIP#priceit that by utilizing
Napster's 14 day free trial you can download and burn 252 80 minutes' CD music. and it is
labeled as "legal", however, there is this step they use some kind of hack to decipher the protected
WMA file to burn it. so maybe not really legal, I don't know whether you can be sued by doing
that.....

Have never really paid much attention to desktop suites, but built my first linux box and threw Open
Office www.openoffice.org onto the computer and it's awsome. I don't see why all small/mid
size companies and individuals would ever buy MS again. I'm just as happy to download a better
office suite for free than to buy one for $200. Really getting sick of microsoft.........
Microsoft recently introduced their new "enhancement" "toolbar suite". This tool bar suite allows
users to search their desktop and have a desktop search bar! Ahem... google already has this in
beta since last year! This so called toolbar suite can block popups, search your desktop in
Outlook and IE and has the ability to open up MSN in one click. However, is this copying google?
Anyways, they also have a new feature. Their image search, groups search and all that jazz is now
easier to access! When you click on the words "image search" for example, it automat....
