- So thinking of dumping Microsoft Office? (32)
Have never really paid much attention to desktop suites, but built my first linux box and threw Open
Office www.openoffice.org onto the computer and it's awsome. I don't see why all small/mid
size companies and individuals would ever buy MS again. I'm just as happy to download a better
office suite for free than to buy one for $200. Really getting sick of microsoft........

Microsoft Confirmed IE7 Compatible with XP and newer
- Internet Explorer 7 only for XP (26)
Micrsoft confirmed what we've already expected. The new-coming explorer IE 7 will only be
compatible with windows XP and newer. The two reasons why old dinosaurs that still use Windows 2000
and lower won't be able to use the new IE are: 1. state in which is the extended support of
Windows 2000 and 2. mostly of technical nature (IE 7 is goin to have a few security updates and
imporvements, which bases on the functionality of the new XP SP2 and this is the reason for its
incompatibility with other versions of Windows) Source: Slashdot ...

So has anyone downloaded and tried this yet?
http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/be...en/default.mspx It's the entire suite for free
and it's really cool. It's such a huge difference from the Office 2000 I've been using
for years. It's a big 450 mb download but I think it's worth it. You have to log in to
download it but all you need is a hotmail account and you don't even need to give them legit
info or anything. I just put in garbledy gook for all fields besides email. The installer is fairly
smart and will remove previous versions...

enforce through lawsuits with dozens of companies, including Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, Sun, RIM and
Google. Forgent acquired the rights to the JPEG compression patent through a 1997 purchase of

Flooding - The New Way For Virus
- New Method's Being Used To Spread Viruses (8)
Virus writers have adopted a new tactic to try to make sure their malicious programs reach as many
victims as possible. Instead of releasing viruses intermittently, many creators of worms and trojans
are pumping them out with increasing frequency. For a while new variants of one virus, called
Mytob, were appearing every hour. Some viruses appear in hundreds of different guises. The variants
are appearing far faster than firms can analyse them and update their scanners to spot the malicious
code. The tactic seems to be paying off. Currently, Mytob variants are filling...

A Windows e-mail virus is trying to attack victims by claiming that Michael Jackson has attempted
suicide. The message hopes to catch people's attention because of the huge interest in the
