Interesting thread, I have been boxing for 4 years now (not really self defence) and have been taking Ju-Jitsu for about 9-10 months. I think some moves in Ju-Jitsu can / are effective if you where to get into a real situation, i actually have used a move in a semi situation before anything escalated. To back it up though i go to the gym 3 times a week and i do my boxing and ju jitsu 3 times a week (opposite days) and have Sunday to rest. As others have said, the best defence for the street would be a self defence course or having a 9mm

defend yourself... well the only way to do it is to learn to fight. there is no such thing as self defense techniques, because you have to be able to fight to use them, so you are fighting to win not defending your self...... that said, technique and skill will out do strenght. if strenght was the key then the guys from the strongman comps would be world heavywieght champs! ;-) very few guys have any fighting skills other than a few tricks that they have used with sucess, so if you learn any fighting stlye, and then move up to freesparing, you are ahead of the game. but the ones who will attack you are ready to do what it takes, and will be brutle, so you have to be the same if you want to win....so learn to fight, katas and forms or step sparring are not going to get you there. they have uses, but you have to be able to do the moves full speed and control them, with out thinking ...ok he is setting up a kick, i will-BAMM!!! you have just been nailed while thinking of the block or counter. boxers have a lot better 'ring ' knowlege than most fighters, so studing some of that will help you a lot, but there is no silver bullet, no style that defeats all styles, so be open to what others have. try a system, any system, and if your teacher knows his stuff, hang in for a while, like at least one year and see where it takes you, it wont be wasted time even if it is not the one you stick with.

Lol, a lego crossbow. That thing would probably de-assemble itself before you can use it to defend yourself. I also agree that the only advantage martial arts or lifting weigts would give you is if you get into a physical fight, a friend who studies martial arts once told me that you do not fight people like in the movies if they have a gun. If they have a gun you do what you are told and if you ever have a chance at taking the gun away from that person you better not miss.

Martial Arts.. of course.. you feel way more secure and stronger.. plus you ARE more secure and strnger.. If you practice a good (good types of martial arts are hard to learn, hard training, and other stuff).. Self Defense is just.. dumb Weight lifting just gets you looks, you can't fight. I myself practice Tae Kwon Do and i'm black belt. I like to train all the time i can.. It will get you bumped up and you will feel your muscles and the power whe nyou hit someone..

Aggression In Martial Arts
Is Aggression neccessary in competitions?? (5) For many, it is believed that aggression is the winning element of a fight. They believe that it’s
this rage that overpowers the target and gives you that animal drive. Is this the same to you? Do
you believe that to be truly successful in a fight you must be seeing blood and fuming? Well, if
it is I ask you to consider something else, another possibility; motive. Although when you feel so
angry, that you feel the blood boiling beneath your surface that’s the winning element right? Well,
maybe it’s wrong. In fact, from experience I can tell you that usually when your s....
Teach Yourself Martial Arts?
Is It Really Possible? (21) Is It Really Possible To Teach Yourself Martial Arts? Well, it's a good question,
and one which is often asked by those that want to master the skills of either sporting martial
arts, or combat martial arts. The truth is simple, and the answer is quick : No. It is not possible
to teach yourself martial arts from scratch to a good level, how ever, this does not mean that you
can not teach yourself to fight. You can quite simply teach yourself to fight, but to fight to a
martial arts standard without the help of self help dvd's, instructors or aid is a....
Freestyle Martial Arts
What's Your Standpoint? (0) We ourselves, as freestyle artists, feel that it is important to question our very routes, and take
a look at what we are. This is perhaps something that you never really thought about, as freestyle
is a somewhat modern term, but the actual idea of combining different styles is something that has
been going for many thousands of years. Freestyle is the study of a combination of martial arts,
or an adapted style of fighting. It is not a 'new' martial art, nor is it an 'old'
martial art. Freestyle's routes lie in the 80's, and the development of n....
Martial Science
Does It Really Make Sense?? (0) It's a fairly new question that is becoming more and more common, and it is a question that can
spark some quite interesting debates. I thought of it after I was finishing a piece for my website.
Tell me what you think of the theory of martial science, leave your views plz... (By the way I
really don't know much about it, so it might not make complete sense /smile.gif"
style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> ) Ok so science plays a big
roll in everything that we do, see or hear. It's the physical proof of a certain theory. So ....
Martial Arts

be intersting to see what styles are covered. I am currently studying Escrima and Wing Tsun. What

Martial Arts? What's Your Viewpoint? Thugs Game Or Profeshional Sport?
Have your say.. wether your a martial artist.. boxer, sports man or a (15) Ok, so I want to know everyone's viewpoints on martial arts... What do you think? Is it a sport?
Is it an art? Is it a thug's game?? Let me know what you think please.. Ok so personally, I
don't see how it could possibly be a thug's game, in all the time of training in both Karate
and Judo I've never seen an essance of anything that we see in the papers being preformed by
groups of youths (just to say I'm not targetting teens, I'm a teen myself.. but you know the
dudes I mean), and to me it is an art, just like dance or anything else like tha....
