i was wondering if there was a way, any way in the world, to make the files that were allready in the file manager when we first signed up meaning these
because on my site, we made a sitemap (http://hogwartsmagic.net/map/ezmap.php) and it shows those folders, and to make it less cluttered we want to get rid of them, or make them invisible to the public..
Modify the script to have these folders / files ignored for display purposes.
Since the bulk of them begin with an under_score, use that as a selection criteria for the ignoring part of the script and then specify the other ones by name.
I haven't looked but there's probably important stuff in there and/or they're there for a reason. Just have it disregard stuff that starts with an underscore or is named cgi-bin.

And by the way, while I was surfing through my files I found this in my public_html and www folders.

My ftp programs indicates the folders were uploaded/created 06/20/06 Anybody have a clue where they might have come from? I certainly didn't upload them. I downloaded them and they are cute little smileys, some animated.
Well, don't delete or change permissions on any of those files or folders. They are "SystemFiles" used by the Server to control access to your account and do a bunch of system maintenance stuff. All of them are needed by the Apache server (or Cpanel) which is the system used to regulate the Hosting here at Trap17 (and many other sites).
Without seeing the actual script you are using to list your sitemap it is difficult for me to sort through the listing and eliminate them from the output of your sitemap, however, one way to stop them from displaying on the sitemap would be to move the site and the sitemap script into a folder 'below' public_html and have your .htaccess file point to the folder instead of the public_html folder.
it would if i knew i knew how to change the htaccess to where it does that, and if i were to do that, then whatever folder i indicate would basicly become the public_html folder?
haha, i feel like such an idiot, i just looked at the script, and there is an option to add

$excludedir[] = "images"
and it will exclude the directory i dont want meh..*hides*
Use the Index Manager in Cpanel and click the last option I think that makes them not appear, I do this all the time, because they are really annoying.
Site Management --> Index Manager --> and the very last option I think, does not display them. After that you should see the icon change too.
Hi there. I have been trying to upload a zip file only about 2mb to my account through CPanel.
First I tried uploading it to a new folder in public_ftp. Then i tried to put it in the main part
of public_ftp. I also tried the same thing in public_html. It shows the file being uploaded, and i
get 100 %, but alas, when i look in the folders nothing is there. Is there a restriction on .zip
files? I have had no problems as of yet uploading htm and html pages. Please let me know ASAP.

I can't delete a little file using file manager in Cpanel. I'm trying to delete a .png
image, actually, I'm trying to replace it. The response comes back as a success, but when I
reload my site it's still there. Then I go back to the file manager and go up a level, then back
and WOOP! There it is! I'm beyond frustrated here. What is going on?....
I saw my friend using a handy FTP manager to upload stuff stuff onto his site. I wanna know if I can
do that with my trap17 site. Can I download any FTP manager from anywhere and use it here? If so
which one would you guys recommend? What is everyone using? I believe you guys are not uploading
files one by one with the file manager.....
I'm using FileZilla right now, and trying to upload a second copy of WordPress onto the account
to use as a comic repository. For some reason, a lot of the files are missing, and when I look into
the folders, I see that a lot of the files have a filelength of 0. What gives? Could someone
please help me out?....

I recently got approved for hosting. I have an account right now, but I don't know which
directory to post my FTP stuff in. (I don't know if this is in support or not; the search
results didn't return anything.) I remember with my last host that had CPanel that you had to
upload it into the "public_html" folder. So I do that, or do I just upload it into the root
directory? Thanks in advance! (EDIT: Oh, never mind, it is /public_html.)....
I know awhile back there was a question brought up about the /TMP folder taking up space, and if
anyone remembers that topic do you remember if TMP was an acronym for temporary, and can you safely
delete the contents in that folder? Right now I am cleaning out my hosting account and the files in

As I said, I had to move my web site away from Trap17 temporarily because I had ran out of disk
space. Now, when my upgrade is finalised, I would like to ask for a little assistance. The provider
I will be moving my site from, back to Trap17 also uses Cpanel, and the admin let me know to do a
backup and that backup could be simply transferred via FTP to my new provider. The backup includes
all my files and MySQL data, in other words, the whole web site. It is in a .tar.gz format. How do I

when i create new file using ftp or the file manger the file get the default permission of (rwx-r-r)
when any php script create file it gets the sam permission right but i cant edit any new file crated

Alright, I figured out the edit html windows need to be refreshed each time opening them for them to
show the last updates so you don't just work off the old, un-updated version and mess everything
up (which really should get fixed). The problem that most annoys me though is when I try deleting
files and the File Manager doesn't delete them. I try uploading updated files over them and it
doesn't update them, but just keeps the old ones there. It's getting really annoying. And
when I try deleting stuff from the Trash Can, it never deletes it. Sometime....

A few minutes ago I was looking at site management tools section in my Control Panel. The tool
"Index Manager" caught my eye. If I used it, then I wouldn't need to create placeholder pages in

I uploaded a .rar file into my FTP but I cant unrar it. I have uploaded it before in zip format but
I think it got curropted so I reuploaded again. is theren a way to unrar this file? I am concerned

Before anyone points it out, I searched this forum for similar topics and couldn't find any, I

Okay, I am having trouble saving changes to a .css file using the cpanel filemanager. Basically it
worked for me a couple of times (trying to edit "compiled.css") but now it just throws this error at
me every time I click save!! I cannot delete, move, rename or edit the file at all using an
ftp manager or even the cpanel. I have been forced to take my site offline until I have access to

Hi guys, i got hosted yesterday and i loged on to my file manager and deleted all the files in there
i replaced them with my site including the index.htm page and now when i try to view it it says no
page found!!! i dont no why this is as with my site when i payed for hosting from
one.net it was as simple as using the run program and typing in mt ftp:\\ account copy the

I downloaded the zip version of the SMF, from www.simplemachines.org I am using SmartFTP, to upload
the files. I created a folder, named Forum, and uploaded all the SMF files there. On the
simplemachines site, it tells me to type my site url followed by /forum/install.php, or whatever the

The version of Konqueror that comes with Knoppix 5.1 doesn't support the file manager in the
cPanel. I've included a picture. However the File Manager works just fine with
Iceweasal, the equivelant browser to Firefox. ....

hello, well i had created a subdomain and was transferring files into the folder i was disconnect
from the server many times while uploading the files via ftp once when i reconnect, i saw a file
with an unusual name something starting with preftp... i tried deleting the file, but it said that
permission was not granted to do that i tired deleting the complete folder and also tried deleting
the subdomain from the cpanel but it was of no use can anyone help me with this? thx for your time

Ok, I want to host a video that I have in my computer, but the problem is that the video is too
big, 790MB. My host can't handle a file that huge so I was wondering if there is any way I can
make the video file in my computer smaller? I don't want to mess up the video and make it
smaller, I was wondering if I can keep the current 790MB video that I already have but copy only
about 10MB of the video into a new file that I can use for hosting. Anyone know?....
