i found this open source script that allows you to make a search engine similare to google but with your own logo and your own ads to make money. i uses google api and google indexing.

Sorry for asking but is this legal? Doesn't sound like it but I may be wrong. Also does anyone know where to get that mini google search engine you can place on your own site? I'm almost ready for my own site.. a few more hosting credits.

Very simply put, this script connects to the Google API Web service using your Google API key, and queries Google from thre. The guy that made it mimiced the real Google interface, so that's why it looks so good. It's not as good as Google; basically, it is Google.

¿So it´s legal although somebody is using google search engine and basically removing the google logo? Pretty strange...

And how are you going to make money? People won´t use your customized google only because your logo looks cooler. ¿Am I wrong?

anyways i think this is kinda lame. imagine what other search engines you are competing against. how many servers do they have?! how much space do they have for web crawlers..? it's not worth doing.

Contrary to what most people believe, the PHPGoogle script isn't a search engine. Rather, it is a interface to the Google API, which uses Google's index. Once again, the script does not search your site - it uses the Google Web service to get the search results from Google. You aren't making a search engine. I thought that his layout on the results page was a copright infringement. Oh well, there goes another nice script.

why would some one want a search engine like googles anyway I would prepare one that is actually a search engine such as altavista. Cos google dosent acutally crawl the net so it normaly doesnt pick up the more rare sites on the net and so thats why I dotn even atempt to use it any more I would prefer to get the doggy sites as well as the rare and good site than just normal main stream sites...

google aint my choice search engine and I wouldnt wanna download their source...and how can google take the script if it is only based upon their technology and not actually the search engine they use...maybe its cos of the name "google"...but legally it would be fine if it didnt have google in its name....

Apparentl, it's not leagal according to google. If you look at the site now it says:

i think it is legal, since google search engine software has been copyright by google, but that one is not the one google is using , so i think it is great,
