As far as I am aware Trap17.net has PHP in safe mode, meaning the mail() function, along with a few others, is disabled. This is to ensure the service is not abused in any way. Most PHP scripts and functions still work as normal. I would verify this but I'm getting an error 500 trying to access Trap17.net ??

im sorry for desinformation Mellisa ( on shoutbox  ) so im maybe a little offtopic, but what does mail() php function actualy do ? what is used for ? i found a lot of web hosting are blocking it ?

The mail function allows you to send emails. It has four perameters: CODE mail(to@to.com, subject, body or message text, headers); More info...Hosts usually disable this function as it can be used to send spam but it can be used legally to send validation emails and newsletters etc etc

A lot of people sign up to free hosts or "cheap" paid hosts just so they can send out thousands and thousands of spam email. If this is the case it severly slows down the server. Even for legitimate mass mailing (like news letters), it is recommended that those be sent out during off hours around 12:00am-6am. What webhosts should really do is have a seperate server for email, mysql, and http. That way if someone abuses mysql or email functions, atleast the website will still run and people can still visit.

We're all being penalised for those who abused the system. It's kinda bad in a way and not in another. It has cut down the amount of spam that can get sent out and it's also easier to track. You can only use the mail() functions if you own the domain and are paying for hosting. I haven't found one free server out there that will allow it.round

i am using the mail function right here on trap17. you don't have to pay for hosting to get to use the mail function. And you don't have to own a domain either. You just have to get your web host to allow you to use the mail function.

A question about how php send mail using which email account in SMTP s (1) I have code my website with send mail feature, I just notice that everytime i send out email, it
uses gamma.xisto.com as the sender, but the fact is I want to use my own email account that exist in
trap17, suppose I create email account name webmaster@innosia.trap17.com then how exactly can I send
an email that uses this email account? So that when user replying the email, the email can be sent
