| | Hey all!
After 3 months of research, reconfiguration and all that, I finally found a way to get aRts application working with ALSA applications all at the same time, and no more hassles of closing 1 program after another.
Here are the steps: 1)Get the latest version of ALSA and aRts. 2)Configure aRts so that it works on top of ALSA. Since ALSA thinks that artsd is just an application, it will just get the sound as if it was any other ALSA apps. 3)Make sure mmap is OFF and in aRts, do NOT enable network sounds. 4) For OSS apps, configure them to use aoss so every program you run can use multi-threading
After everystep is done, run an ALSA app and an aRts app and see if they really do work together. If not, just post back here and I'll try to help you.

Wow... I didn't know that was even possible. Have you seen http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/o...May/000338.html ? I have no clue whether the patch for the aRts, ALSA, and ESD backends became standard, but I think this would be partially responsible for your phenomenal integration if it was.

Asp.net Hosting On Linux Servers?
(1) Hi, I was searching the free ASP.NET hosting, but I didn't found any really good hosts. However,
I found lots of good free hosting sites(like trap17) without ASP.NET support. Now I'm wondering,
why there is only few free ASP.NET hosts with such poor plans? You may say, that ASP.NET requires
Windows OS, but it isn't true, there is such tool named mono, which allows run NET technologies
on linux OS and it is free(as far as I know). Then why hosts doesn't interested in ASP.NET? A
lot of people searching for free good ASP.NET hosting, I just can't underst....

(4) Hi, I am quite a big n00b with Linux. I need help with this issue. I didn't want to install
Linux on my hard-drive but still wanted to use it as a normal version not from a Live CD. I was
looking for a Linux that can be installed on a pen drive. First I found SLAX and then I stumbled
upon Russix, which is also based on SLAX. I like the security auditing part of Russix.

Linux Games
Any linux gamers out there? (0) Hi, are there any linux players out there? I know there are a lot of unique linux games out there,
but they are too much to try them all (and my drive space is very limited). I'm currently
trying auteria, a nice mmorpg, also available for windows. I like it because it's not as
stupid (personal opinion), as most otherf MMORPG in which everything I do is killing monsters to get
better weapons and higher levels to kill more monsters. Of course you can do the same in Auteria, if
you want... but besides that it's really nice and you can do a lot of other thing....
Network Install Linux On Laptop With No Cd Drive?
(6) I was hoping some linux tech heads here could give me some pointers about installing linux onto a
laptop I have which has no cd drive. To make things worse it does not even boot from usb. I had
installed XP on it with an unattended install using the /makelocalsource switch which copies files
to the local hdd then finishes setup from there after reboot. Is there an easy switch function to
install any linux distro once you have the files on your hdd? (I have a mapped network drive to my
laptop and sharing from my desktop so i can access my files. I just don't know if....

Php Code?
Mathematical Applications (12) Hello, everyone. The help is needed again. How can I make calculator in PHP language? That will act
like that a user just type in the fields known values, then click the button, and it's going to
be solved automatically. In other words, have can I write a formula in PHP, how to plug it inside
that language. For example, the formula to find a peremeter of square is: P=4a. So, a user
just can write the known value which is peremeter itself and it will find the side of a square; and
vice versa. If you can write many things how to do such formulas, such as comp....
Auto-delete Your Spam In Gmail
finally, get rid of all that spam! (15) i have been using gmail for quite a while, and have always hated hotmail. i hate it now more than
ever now that it is 'windows live mail'. however, there has always been something about
gmail that bugs me: how on earth do i get rid of all that spam? i mean, doesn't it ever bug you
when you have 3 new messages in your inbox, and then 56 bits of spam? and then you have to manually
head to the spam folder, and delete them all? i know gmail offer you a lot of space and i know the
spam messages get deleted after 30 days, but for me it is a phsychological thing: i....
If Mac Osx Is Best With Hardware, Where Does Linux Lie?
(5) Here's a good question: Is Linux better at utilizing hardware efficiently to produce optimal
performance out of your components. I hear a lot about Mac OSX being so much better with Intel
processors and yada yada, but I don't know if this is true or if a bunch of Mac elitists said a
bunch of crap and ran with it. I don't think there are actual comparable benchmarks, but if
there are, where does Linux lie in the hardware efficiency race? (Or is it dependent on which Linux
distribution it is, like how XP still beats Vista in performance?)....
What Made You Switch To Linux?
(32) I first tried Linux a few years ago, not because I was completely against Windows or anything like
that, but just because I had some free time on my hands. I started off with Mandrake 9.0 which was
very user friendly and Windows-like. After reading through a bunch of message boards and learning
which distros are good for what, I soon realized my current distro was great for Linux noobs. So
then I decided to try something a little more advanced like Slackware which I knew had a steep
learning curve. Since then I've been using Slackware as my main OS and couldn't ....
Martial Arts Of Noobs
which one should i do? (19) I am getting out of high school and heading out to college. I have been wrestling for a long time
and have loved it, but I don't plan on wrestling in college. Rather than wrestling in college
what kind of martial art is out there that is fun to learn and will provide me with the same skills
as wrestling? I think martial arts is a fun thing to do. I have a friend that is a black belt, but
I could never be up to his skill.....
Chinese Kenpo
Martial Arts (4) I have studied martial arts for self defense only. French Savate was too deadly to be
practical in anything but a fight to the death. Tae Kwon Do provided great exercise and could be
effectively used in a fight. Tae Kwon Do provides great tournaments. I was surprised how safe
tournament fighting was. Movies sensationalize to the max, of course. But, the best form that I
found for walking away, unscathed (without killing anyone) was Chinese Kenpo . My sefu (master) was
a total maniac, but the students were great! Has anyone studied an unusual fighting st....
Ubuntu Linux As Free Operating System Alternative
linux operating system (46) About three years ago I decided to learn how to use Linux and after a lot of posts on a forum I
tried Ubuntu Linux as it was recommended as a good first Linux distro. Ubuntu is not the easiest
Linux distro to use but with its unmatched forum community support it is one of the easiest to learn
to use. One of the problems with learning Linux is that a lot of users have an attitude that Linux
should be a free Windows knock off which it is not. Ubuntu is build on a Linix core or kernel and is
a different Open Source and free as in to use operating system. This brings us to t....

better at certain things and your reasons why. I would also like to know more about Linux because
i'm slightly confused on it. Will it mess my computer up if i install it, dont like it, and

Teach Yourself Martial Arts?
Is It Really Possible? (21) Is It Really Possible To Teach Yourself Martial Arts? Well, it's a good question,
and one which is often asked by those that want to master the skills of either sporting martial
arts, or combat martial arts. The truth is simple, and the answer is quick : No. It is not possible
to teach yourself martial arts from scratch to a good level, how ever, this does not mean that you
can not teach yourself to fight. You can quite simply teach yourself to fight, but to fight to a
martial arts standard without the help of self help dvd's, instructors or aid is a....

What Linux Distro Do You Use ?
(63) I've just recently tried linux and I must say I"m really impressed with the new KDE and Gnome
environments, as well as the shere number of OSS available. I'm really excited about devling
deeper into this more stable and efficient OS; This coming from a windows user since it's dawn.
I've started with Gentoo 2006.0 to get my feet wet, and I'm planning to grab the new Fedora
Core 5 when I get a chance (as well as more cd's/dvd's) - it was recommended to me.
Anyways, what linux flavor do you prefer and why ? ....
What Is Mysql's Default Root Password?

Usermin and mysql-cc. What is the default password, and how can I change it? I am very excited to be

How Do I Switch From Gnome To Kde?
Ubuntu Linux (6) Hey. I use Windows mainly, as I use games and graphical programs the most. However, I use Linux a
bit, just for programming and other things like that. I'm not that good at programming and
linux though ;_;... Well, I decided that the main reason I don't like to use it is that it
looks so alien, and I hate how GNOME looks. I hear that if I move to KDE I'll be sacrificing
some performance or whatnot. I have this really crazy linux zealot friend who preaches the linux
gospel to me, and will attempt to beat down any reason why I like Windows. I would ask ....
