Japaenese Pop Music - What J-pop music artists do you like?

Hey all!

Just thought I'd ask around the community to see if anyone out there listens to Japanese pop music. If so, what bands/artists do you like?

I personally like Mr. Children the best. I've been listening to their music ever since 1997 (when their Bolero CD came out). Great songwriting from start to finish in just about every song they've released.

Other bands I like include The Ulfuls, Every Little Thing, globe and Hikaru Utada (aka "Utada" in the U.S.).

Now let's hear from some of you about what J-pop/J-rock bands you like.

i don't listen to J-pop much but I used to like Utada Hikaru and Hamasaki Ayumi a few years back...

I like Kokia too although i only like one of her songs, 'arigatou'

Anyway it's hard for me to like J-pop when in a country which has no exposure to J-pop at all

Alright...Mr. Children's official site is at - www.mrchildren.jp,
Utada's Island Records site for her US Release "Exodus" is at - http://www6.islandrecords.com/utada/site/home.php
Every Little Thing and globe have their official websites under the avex network:
http://www.avexnet.or.jp/globe/ and http://www.avexnet.or.jp/elt/
Finally, the Ulfuls (who hail from Osaka) can be founs at www.ulfuls.com (but it's in Japanese)

As far as I know, all of these websites have song samples you can listen to.
Feel free to check them out and let me know what you think. cool.gif

I don't know how really "J-Pop" it is, but I used to be a big X-Japan fan a while back. The piano and string arrangements are just gorgeous. I burned a CD for a friend once, and he said that they reminded him of Meatloaf with an accent rolleyes.gif

San Francisco by Midicronica, its the ending song of the last episode of Samurai Champloo. I've uploaded the song to my site.

I like J-pop and K-pop. A japanese woman's voice just sounds so nice in song. I mostly just listen to video game and anime soundtracks though, not too much of the real stuff.

But I have just one question for you guys.

Got rice?

^-^

oo I've heard one song by BoA "Amazing Kiss" it's quite good.
I love Hayashibara Megumi, she does so many of the songs from Ranma 1/2, my favorite anime ^^

I also really like Midicronica's "San Francisco" from the ending of the last episode of Samurai Champloo.
Ooshima Michiru who does a lot of the instrumentals from Full Metal Alchemist is great as well.
(I realize not all these are J-Pop, but I'm horrible at guessing genres so I'll name everything Japanese I listen to tongue.gif)

I also listen several Final Fantasy soundtracks, I <3 Nobou Uematsu

I've gotten realy into Misora Hibari lately. She's was a very famous Enka singer, her music is beautiful.

Also the bands L'Arc-en-Ciel, YeLLOW Generation, Pornograffiti, and best of all Cool Joke, are awesome.
All of them do opening or ending songs for Full Metal Alchemist.

I'm trying as well to span out and listen to bands that aren't linked to anime or video games, but they're so lovable tongue.gif

I like Utada's music, although I'm not really into J-pop itself. I actually love to listen to...anime opening/ending songs and/or OST's(soundtracks). I dunno why, nbormal japanese music doesn't interest me, but allot of anime music is pure awesome IMO. >_>

*jams to Tenjou Tenge theme "Bomb A Head"*
