| | This morning I was going to listen to some music, so I got my iPod, turned it on, and it reset (I hadn't had it plugged in for a while). When I got to the music, it would go through half of a song, then skip to the next. After doing this a couple times, it would just skip entire songs. It'd skip six or seven, then do half of one, then skip six or seven more.
Later I looked on the internet for some ideas, so eventually I tried resetting it again, as instructed. This worked for a little bit, but then it started skipping over songs again. I reset again, and it lost all the data, then I reset once more and all the data came back. After that I tried playing some more things, but it kept skipping over parts or whole songs, and came close to freezing a couple times.
Does anyone have any idea what could be happening and/or how to fix it? After it lost the data once I've been reluctant to touch it, so it's just sitting there charging. |

hmmm.... ipod shuffle??? isn't it supposed to shuffle betweens the songs??? or are you actually using ipod mini?? maybe fix it at the nearest apple centre. i wouldnt try to play with thhe chips stuff if it was me. prefer to leave it to the professionals. get your warranty card there.

try wiping it clean, then putting all the songs back on. Try using different computer, put i-tunes on it, and that should wipe the I-pod clean and just load your ipod back up. What happens is that if the Ipod can't read the song, it stutters, tries to play that part, and sometimes skips songs. try that, or else send it back in.

Yes, try to fix it in an apple center. if you try to repair it by yourself and something goes wrong the guarranty will not pay you anything.

What kind of ipod? Shuffle? mini? I have an ipod mini and it isn't as bad as yours, but one of my songs it starts playing the first 3 seconds of and skips it. That is the only song that it does that on though. It may be because the music files might be corrupt. If they were obtained illegaly that wouldn't be abnormal. Definitely talk to the proffesionals.

It's a regular 20GB. I'm going to try to update/restore it and if that doesn't work I'll take it to an Apple store. I got a big burst of irony this morning when I thought it was working, but then skipped half a song and went to "I Should've Known Better."

my friend's ipod hangs at times too, i just drained itb attery since i had it with be and i dont have its charger too~ i prefer those smaller mp3s since it would less likely freeze @_@ ill get some other portable device to handle other things that an ipod has, aisde from its playing capabilites @_@~ i wasnt that fond of things that are all in one and such XD

Well lets see here...... I wish i had ipod cuz then i wouldn't have burn cds and *BLEEP* cuz u can ge tin to troble for burning cds i mean big trouble i almost put in jail for burning cds and man it was *BLEEP*ed up ipods like 150 $ thats kinda alot for poor pplz so i'll probly get one some time real soon but i think u guys should get one

My Ipod Is Randomly Skipping Songs, Losing Data,
this has been happening to me too. The songs play fine in itunes, transfer fine also, but when I play them using my ipod touch, it is like the song data has rearranged itself, it plays a track, but skips within itself loads, and drives me ****ing nuts! I have done many resets/restores etc and followed all common solutions but nothing is working. Any ideas?

If your ipod shuffle did not support or play more than 7 or 8 songs then download SWITCH SOUND FILE CONVERTER by searching in google and decrease the bit rate of songs in ENCODER OPTIONS donot decrease it so mush that it has no effects

Just had this problem happen to me today and was perplexed. The songs would never start, and the Ipod would just skip to the next one...Then the next...Then the next, etc.

A quick Google search led me here, and the suggestion of pressing and holding the menu+middle/OK button for a few seconds did the trick."

OK the problem regarding the iPod skipping songs I think is because of different problems. I might have a solution for one of them. One of the problems I think, is due to the iPod itself (that explains why it played the song before but now it skips it.) I also had the problem before where a song plays for 30 sec and then skips to the next song (this was fixed by setting the end time, just check the end time, you don't need to type in the time unless it says something like 30 secs) The other problem is when the song you just transfer to your iPod and it won't play and it just skip to the next song.
I recently downloaded a song and it wouldn't play on my iPod. It was fine when I played it on iTunes but not on my iPod. What I did was, and I read that some people just converted it to AAC but mine would give me an error and I didn't want to decrease the quality of the song, so I used GoldWave (you can download it for free) I opened the song and click save as, you can either replace the file or save it with another name just make make sure that if your file bit is 320 save it 320 stereo or if is 225 then save it 225 stereo. Then it will promt a message saying you need LAME version 98.0 or later or something like that just click download and it will do it automatically and it will be saved. The only thing is that when you do that, you will lose the art work but that's not a big of a problem.
I hope this help because it did fix my problem.

I had the same problem which only started after I had entered data for 'sort album artist'. I deleted all those entries and the iPod seems to be, touch wood, fingers cross with my lucky 4 leaf clover in my pocket, working fine

Ipod Not Working, Need Help
(34) Not sure if this is the right forum, but I didn't see anywhere else for it... Ok, my girlfriend
got a 4 GB iPod Nano about a month ago. She had about 100 songs on it and one day they just
disappeared. Her normal PC won't recognize that she has the iPod plugged in, and her
stepdad's laptop will recognize it... But after she transfers all the songs, and she unplugs the
iPod from the laptop, she loses all of her songs again... She talked to an apple guy, but they said
she needed to do a system restore on it, but they didn't tell her how... And she can't ....
