Maybe you have already heard about the Opera browser and maybe some are already using it now.
But for some that don't have any idea on what it's about, well let me do the honors...
Opera is a browser. You can download it on Opera.com
anyways, what i like about this browser is that you can easilly download nice looking opera skins for free. Aside from that, it has BitTorrent---You don't need a separate BitTorrent application to download large files. Simply click a torrent link and start the download.-- it means that if you're downloading, you won't be bothered by a seperate download window hanging around your screen unlike that of internet explorer.
and the other features you can see at their site. so its up to you.
well, i'm not forcing you to try it cause i'm really not hired to do this. anyways, this forum is about sharing things you know so i might as well share it with you.
I have used it a long time ago,but I never know that it already includes BitTorrent application. That is so great.Otherwise,This browser is lacking something that I don't really know.Sometime I have to use Internet Explorer to surf the web because it doesn't display properly what the website has.
This is the main web browser that I use because of it holding and also saving the tabs if a problem happened and the browser were to exit all the previous sites are saved from where they were last at. If Firefox was like this more users would use Firefox. I have always liked using it because I am always working on the computer and multi-tasking and sometimes I may exit the wrong browser I am using and all my work is saved, so I suggest people use this its more advanced then how Firefox is and I do not see much of what makes Opera a good web browser to also be on Firefox. Opera has more settings and it is a tad more advanced.

I tried Opera and it wasn't for me, it was actually a bit slugish for me and I never got used to the interface, I normally use firefox, which now asks you if you want to close tabs and also on Bon Echo (New Firefox Beta) and the newest version of firefox you can recover tabs. Also I used avent browser which was what I think the best browser I ever used, I just forgot to redownload it after I changed operating systems. I have also used IE7 but its still a bit slugish as a beta.
Altrough I use Opera I think it has far too many bugs... When I log into my e-banking menu's don't show up etc, and if a conversation gets too long in gmail the reply buttons etc fall off as well.. The only reason I use Opera is because when you open a new window in a new tab and you close it you return to the page where you opened the tab instead of the upper layer tab...

I'm just adding to the list of errors but also the mail client never ever worked on my computer, or on any other computer that I tried it on at all, with the same pop3 account, with 100% correct info it never could connect, I tried different ones and it still couldn't
Backup Zip the entire: C:\Program Files\Opera Folder OR
Backup these individual files: Opera.ini buttons.ini (button settings) cookies4.dat (cookies) opera6.adr (bookmarks) contacts.adr (addresses) *.adr (if you have renamed your bookmark file.) styles directory (if you have customized any of the style sheets there. (mail, news, history, etc. layout settings) button.dat (location of buttons.ini files) opera.win (your saved windows file, along with window size settings) download.dat (downloaded files history - last 14 days) global.dat (history) vlink4.dat (visited links) cache4 (folder) (cache) OUsr600.dat (registration, if registered) opera.dir (addresses typed into "f2")
Forget the Back Button Use "reload every..." (right click/reload every...) on forum windows so you don't have to constantly reload the page. It sounds complicated, but is not. Once you become accustomed to it, this method is very powerful. Forget about that back button. (Mouse gestures for back and forward are also quite nice, and what I use.)
Cool Search Page Just load THIS HTML PAGE into Opera Click View | Hotlist | Add Panel. You can add any page to the hotlist that way... I also use this page in Netscape and Mozilla, by adding it to my Tabs After you download the page, be sure to scan for virus, altho it is clean, still a good practice. I zipped the file to avoid any corruption...
Empty Cache on Exit It is possible to set Opera to empty cache on exit. To do that, go to: Preferences | Cache | Disk cache Place a tick in the box "Empty on exit" To select manually what you want to delete, close Opera and go to your Opera directory. In the "cache4" folder you can select what files you would like to remove.
Printer Settings - From Edward: If you are printing a web page in Opera and find that the printer will not print the footers at the bottom (URL on left side, timestamp on right), go to File/Print Options, and gradually INCREASE the Right Margin setting. I had to change it to 2.80 (in centimeters (cm)), in order for my Epson Stylus Color 640 to print the footers.
Disable the Splash Screen To disable the "Welcome to Opera" splash screen you will need to edit the "Opera.ini" file, which is located in your Opera folder: [USER PREFS] SHOW SPLASH SCREEN=0
Link Windows If you encounter a page with a lot of links on it, like a forum where you post frequently: load the Opera forum and try this: ctrl-m,l (or right click, create linked window). Click on one messsage, it opens in the linked window. Respond. Click on another message, it too opens in the linked window, etc. Those two windows are linked until you close one of them. Very nice feature.
Before upgrading opera 1. empty the cache. 2. use winzip to zip up the whole opera directory. 3. install the new version. 4. if there is a problem (you dont like the new version, a bug you cannot tolerate, etc.), delete the Opera directory, and unzip the old version. Double click on the shortcut, and you are back up and running again.
EDIT: 06/15/03
Opera Keyboard Shortcuts CTRL+B Brings up all keyboard shortcuts F4 Toggles the Hotlist on and off F5 Reloads page
With version 7, you will find a list of the default keyboard shortcuts in the input.ini file. The keyboard/toolbars/menus can all be customized through the gui (some) and the .ini files (most).
Mouse Gestures Back: Press right button, click left button Press right button, move mouse left
Forward: Press left button, click right button Press right button, move mouse right
Go to parent directory Up, then left
Create new, empty browser window Double-click in workspace
Go to pre-set home page Double-click in empty window
Bookmarks Using multiple browsers, you should make a new folder for all any bookmarks you make in Opera. Then you can save that folder/subfolders as an Opera bookmark file, which can be converted back to Netscape's format. Then Bookmarks in both browsers remain reasonably synchronized. Of course you can always opt to use a third party Bookmark Manager.
Browsing With Opera, remember that CTRL-SHIFT-CLICK (open link in background) is your friend. That is what really makes it faster with real-world use, along with user mode, keyboard shortcuts and the ability to turn off plugins, animation, and background sounds... Especially with a slower DUN connection, loading pages in the background will be advantageous.
I have opened as many as 40 windows at one time, using Opera. There was no ill effect experienced. This is not a practice you would want to carry out in your alternate or even your default browser.
At this point, I do not know if this is an issue with Opera or if it's a Linux printing/CUPS issue, but initially, a print queue could not be saved as a default in Opera 7.11 (Linux), as it would always default to the first listed print queue, which are listed in alphabetical order.
Select the Print button, or FIle/Print. In the Print window, click the Printer program tab. In the Printer progrram field, type: lpr In the Parameter field, type: -P<name of printer queue> (without brackets, no spaces) Click Apply, then Close.
On my system, the Parameter is: -Pnormal1 (no spaces), the printers are the Epson Stylus Color 640 and 400 models.
With that lpr entry in the queue listing, any of them can now be set as the default queue when selected/highlighted and Apply is clicked.
Exclamation WARNING: On my systems, if the lpr queue is selected, it will print. However, if one of the other queues (in this instance: draft1 or normal1) are selected after using the lpr entry to print, even if another queue is saved as the default afterwards, the other queues will NOT print.
The lpr entry however, will print, if its selected afterwards:
Print job 1: draft1 prints Print job 2: lpr prints Print job 3: draft1 does not print Print job 4: lpr prints
In order to fix this and use the other queues (i.e. draft1 and normal1) afterwards, I had to exit Opera completely, then relaunch it. Exclamation
Disclaimer: Although the above is a workaround for my systems, I do not guarantee that the above will work on other systems.
Well. I like opera for its speed. But often it doesn't display content like it should. Take youtube for an example. It wont display the javascript even with the javscript enabled... It just doesn't display right. But it i fast. Thats why I use Firefox. Decently fast and displays everything.
EDIT: SO SORRY for the bump. I thought this was a new topic.. Sowwy...
I think what we all expect to see is the compatibility between browsers and websites. There are a lot of websites out there especially Intranets of educational institutes which cannot be displayed on Firefox or Opera but only IE. So you can imagine how slow the developers are. That is the reason why I did not change to Opera, Firefox is secure and fast, on top of that it is so easily customizable with skins and add ons. I would not say the same for IE 7.
I love Opera for its features and speed. You can put just about any toolbar element or menu in any position within the browser, giving you ultimate flexibility. I find that the feed reader is crude (more like a mail client, which is also included) but effective, and the tab management features are top-notch. Although Opera is fussy about supporting some Web sites, a good majority of those out there do render properly and function normally. If I had to pick the #1 browser, it would definitely be Opera.
Well the topic is kind of misleading or rather the description of the topic since the Browser speed wars are between Firefox 3 and google Chrome. I believe Opera 10 A is in 4th place with Safari, Chrome and Firefox 3.1b2 in first, second and third place respectively and the latest bench marks prove that Opera is no longer the fastest browser in the world.
I can't agree....I don't believe in those benchmarks. After studying many benchmarks for different products(not just browsers, different types of softwares) I came to the conclusion that most of the benchmarks are the opinions of their respective reviewers(may be they are supporting their opinions by providing these benchmarks). If not...how can these benchmarks differ by reviewer?
And coming to this browsers issue....I can say Opera is the fastest of all(I had conducted my own benchmark ). The speed of any browser doesn't mean how fast the browser downloads the page. It depends on many other issues like rendering the page, usability etc..Opera renders the page very very fast, And Usability is one of the important factor for me to decide Opera is the best.
For example take its inbuilt option..Mouse Gestures. It can make your internet experience much more easy...Usually I save lot of images from web..and with opera I can sve the images just by Ctr+Click. Very easy..to create a new tab ...duplicating the tab and many more. And another one is inbuilt Speed Dial feature. These features will save lot of your time...can't you call it speed?
I know I can get these functionalities in firefox by installing extensions..but installing many extensions make our browser worse...After installing some of these extensions my firefox is using lot of RAM. But with Opera..you can get most of these features without installing any extensions. Speed dial in google Chrome is worst. Actually we can't compare Chrome with these two browsers...Chrome is still a kid, lets take it into account after it became a fully featured browser. I can write many other reasons to support Opera... but I'm stopping here as this post is getting larger...
Finally in my opinion Opera is the best of all..and my second choice is FireFox...

I kinda like opera to be honest! Its one of the most fast, sleek and simple to use browsers available! Very clear, good space, awesome shortcuts, who wouldnt like opera? I know I do. Even though I use IE8 BETA2 most of the time, Opera is my second option
Weirdly enough IE is the only browser that works at the school-page after the computer-dude has blocked the internet - but when everything is open all the browsers work... not 100%, but they work. I have downloaded Chrome, Firefox and Opera. Chrome can not download things (I probably have the old version, have not bothered to download the old one...) Firefox is a mess sometimes (I love it at home though) and Opera is... well it has not got it all but it has everything I need and most importantly: It works at my computer. Yey.
Have you noticed that mostly geeks (the biggest Internet users) and newbies (the smallest Internet users) use Opera because it's good for both of them? Those who hate Opera are usually those in the middle, who demand features - features - features (and don't use them that much - I know as I was one of them), and they can't see that Opera has all of them hidden beneath the surface
I am 100% sure that Opera is the best browser (the fastest, most feature full, with the best look) on the GNU/Linux platform and I won't switch it for anything. Opera is fast on Windows too but it should be used on regular and slower machines, but for now I think Chrome is the fastest on fast machines w/ fast connections and on the Mac it's Safari which should be used if you like speed and OmniWeb if you like the look, speed and features, and Opera if you like everything!
Google Chrome is a new browser from google. The design is sleek , everything loads really quickly

I came across this browser by a fluke chance when I was checking out articles at PC World, and from
what I remember from the article this is a very big name browser in Japan and they wanted to expand
it to the international market. What really caught my eye is that they want to get 5% of the
international market in the browser wars in the next couple of years. To give a background story to

popularity in the international community and so now they are trying to enter thems....

No seriously, I've been using Firefox since 0.x releases. I loved it. Every release, despite
having no huge features, was a great update. Version 3, however, totally messes everything up. Its
default interface is ugly. And no Home button, really ??? (ps. I kno i can drag it back from the
