Man these selft-installers are *BLEEP*! DOn't rely on self-installers that installs Apache, PHP, MYSQL, ActivePerl in one package as most of them don't use uptodate versions. Also there is a small problem too, if you want to upgrade say Apache then you'll be stuffed as it is/maybe hardcoded into the self-installer app. Here is a recommended server installation Apache 2.0.52 ActivePerl 5.8 PHP 4... read more.

I use PHPDev. It works fine. I've installed alot of different forums to test them out and stuff. If you have any questions, just ask.

I tried a few scripts to install a localhost on my machine and found most to be confuseing for a begginer ( ME ) and then i found Apache2triad , its an application that will install everything you need to get a website up and running on your computer (php, mysql, apache server, phpmyadmin)without it being on the internet. The reason for doing this is so you can test out different functions and scripts with your site without having to chance messing up the site you have published online. It is very easy to install and works quite well. Just download the program and follow the instructions. you can get Apache2triad here >> http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/23555.html . Another you could try is easyphp , but it was written in itallian or somehting and I could understand it.[/url]

Also there is a small problem too, if you want to upgrade say Apache then you'll be stuffed as it is/maybe hardcoded into the self-installer app.

Here is a recommended server installation

Apache 2.0.52
ActivePerl 5.8
PHP 4.3.10
MySQl 4.0.18
phpMyAdmin 2.6.0 pl3

and your best to install these seperatly, What I mean by seperatly is the you download each software package form their offical sites and not to use those stupid all-in-one self-installers!

Also the reason why I recomend to use PHP 4.3.10 is that PHP5 does have problems, I see people in other forums saying they've installed PHP5 on Apache2 and get errors. Also PHP5 doesn't come with built-in support for MySQL. But PHP 4.3.10 is the way to go as it is bug free and doesn't have any conflict problems with Apache2 and comes with MySQL built-in support too.

Now I recommend to view this tutorial here at ApacheFreaks on installing each package seperatly.

http://www.apachefreaks.com/forums/index.p...?showtopic=3618

Its is easy step by step guide! Also another note, those fo you that may just want Apache and PHP installed then you can choose what tutorial part to read!

Please don't use the all-in-one self installers! would rather learn about how to install and congigure a webserver yourself than being a lazzy sod using one of those all-in-one self installers? laugh.gif

Well I'd rather learn, How to install sertain bits of software for my server. So say someone says to you do you know how to install MySQL with my current server configuration.

Always learn and don't be lazzy as it is easy to install!

I haven't had a single problem with installing my server manually on my WinXP PC. Also that tutorial is for Windows PCs only but there are tutoials out there for you guys with Linux/Unix etc

Well good luck!

The best thing is to install APPSERV (http://www.appservnetwork.com). It is not necessary configuration. You execute the program and works everything.

AppServ 2.4.2

PHP 4.3.9

Apache 1.3.33

MySQL 4.1.7

Zend Optimizer 2.5.5

phpMyAdmin 2.6.0-pl2

Perl 5.8.4
Download : http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/appserv....2.exe?download

AppServ 2.5.2

PHP 5.0.2

Apache 1.3.33

MySQL 4.1.7

Zend Optimizer 2.5.5

phpMyAdmin 2.6.0-pl2

Perl 5.8.4
Download : http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/appserv....2.exe?download

You want using a package software supporting HTTP server ( include PHP programming support) it very easy , you only need download once from anywhere
eg:
http://miniserver from miniserver.sourceforge.net
PHPDEV, fox or easyserver software ....

Yeah, I have tried out most options folks mentioned here, but I like the simplicity and the fact that miniserver.sourceforge.net always worked for me.
Very simple...no installation or config...just unpack and run. 8)

Apache2tried have some bugs so on the latest version was removed som funccions on it.

You can try to use IBSERVER , a simple windows SW that allow you to use MYSQL,PHP and other stuff inside windows.
After install it, you can use http://127.0.0.1 to test your web site
or go to www.no-ip.com or www.dynodns.com get a free account install the Redirect Software and get you web site on the web with the hosts no-ip.com or dyndns.com
EX: test.no-ip.com smile.gif
it works without problems.
