How To Install A Favicon - Yup, a favicon.

GeT HeXD
Ok, you know those little icons that are to the left of a web address? |_ smile.gif http://www.domain.com_| Well that is called a favicon, folks. If you want one, simply do the following:

1.) Make sure your favicon is in .ico format. Name it favicon.ico
2.) Upload the favicon.ico to the same folder as your main index.html or index.php or index.asp, whatever. Basciaaly, you should have:
http://domain.com/blah/favicon.ico http://domain.com/blah/index.___<--PHP,HTML,ASP, whatever you have.
3.) Put this into the head tag of your index page:
CODE
<link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon">

That's it!

Good tutorial for people wondering how to create those little icons next to the URL in the address bar.

Thanks for posting it!

Something you forgot to point out is that your favicon should be 16 pixels x 16 pixels. For anyone with Photoshop CS, there's a plugin that lets you save an .ico file from Photoshop.

I was going to point out the 16x16, but instead I just put an example. But yes, it must be 16x16.

Oh, and if it takes a long time to upload the file to your host, it's normal. I guess because it is a big file but mine takes like 3 minutes to upload. IDK maybe a slow server? Not Trap17, my non-PHP host that I just keep like my flash files, images, shiznitz0r like tah.

Well I used to create favicons. But I would have no imagination for a tiny icon, it was applied successfully but it looked *BLEEP*.
