| | I would have to agree with you. People sware too much now, especially at my school. Most of the people sware because it makes them feel cool or big, but sometimes they just do it because they can not find an intelligent word to get their point across. Many of the people who use these words don't even know what they mean. Unless you know what something means you should not say it. |

it is a shame what the world has come to. I was brought up to not swear, i remember swearing at my mum after i had over-heard some builders and my mum washed my mouth out with soap (not a fun experience and a briliiant way to teach a child not to do something) however i have noticed as I got older and hung around with people who swore a lot these words have crept into my vocabulary and i swear sometimes without even noticing it, it tends to happen most when i am angry or drunk. I do wish i could stop it but I don't ever expect to be able to completely. Maybe i need to go visit my mum so she can do the old soap trick again.....

"hey dude do you swear....?...because i do" and it just picks up from there. But i am definatly glad that im not the worst i can be..you know like you wordsucker ..and other really profain ones..for me its only really the F word and if you consider sh** a swear word (which i dont, but some people do so i try and respect peoples opinion when i use this word just lke other words)..then i suppose im not THAT BAD ....but i still do admit i have aproblem....its became natural convorsation to me and i dont know how im gona stop it

In a way I see your point but in a way I disagree, if you do any research on the words most of them originated from another language, such as the F word which originated from German Word "Flicken" or to flick. As people become older it is only going to get worse simply due to movies, and tv allow more to be said now adays as well and it just shows a sign of ignorance in part on the person offended and the person saying it.

Part of the reason kids are learning to swear so young now is they hear it all around them. Try riding a public bus in my city through a 'bad' neighborhood. There will be a group of young people hanging out together and practically every other word out of their mouth is a curse word. There are young children on the bus hearing those words. Same thing in shopping centers, malls, stores, downtown on the sidewalk, city parks, etc. Parents used to watch their language around their children more, too. My parents hardly ever cursed, usually my dad only by surprise when he stubbed his toe or something like that. So as a child, I just wasn't exposed to bad language until I was a teenager. And I got in trouble for cursing as a teen, so I tried not to. Now, how many times do you see parents cursing in public with their children there to hear it? Or hear children with their parents cursing, and the parents don't even do anything about it? It probably has something to do with more cursing on TV, in movies, and in songs too. But I think the main reason is lack of parental concern over it. And lack of parental discipline in general, about cursing, and all kinds of other things. I remember when I was a kid, when I got home from school, I had to sit at the kitchen table and do my homework where my mom could watch me. Until my homework was done, I couldn't do anything else. My parents went to PTA meetings, talked to my teachers, and kept track of my grades. They kept track of the days I stayed home sick, so they could check my absent days on my report card and make sure I didn't cut any classes or skip days at school. How many parents do that nowadays? And so many people wonder why their kids aren't learning anything at school. Parents have to get involved with their kid's education if they expect the kid to learn anything. Nowadays, parents blame it on the school system, other kids influence, society, the government, anything and everything except themselves not getting involved. They do it for everything else too these days, because they don't get involved enough with their kid's lives.

Hmmm I believe cursing is a bad way to vent aggression, but it's better then smashing someone to pieces. I noticed that lots of people mention the 'f' word, but lemme tell you this: Here in Holland people have worse things they curse with, like cancer, typhus and all those terrible deceases. Another curse I don't like is God damn. Heh in a way they say "God, please damn me". I found this because in Dutch it's godverdomme (god=god verdom=damn me=me) Really weird though, because they curse at someone or something else and it backfires on them. If I had to choose between cursing with the 'f' word or those mentioned above...

Want my Christian perspective? Too bad, I want to give it anyway. The Bible says that no Guile, or filthy language should come out of our mouths. I believe it. It profits you what? say it with me,... NOTHING! I find it repulsive. and frankly, when I find it on the forums, it makes me want to stop coming. I am admin on another forum, and if it happens, it is dealt with instantly. You get one warn period, then it's an IP ban. I don't tollerate it. Most people find it offensive anyway and it leads to fights, and misunderstandings. Swearing does nobody any good. Some think it makes them feel better, but really, it is just more fuel for the next time the find themselves in a predicement. Language is for immature people who think it makes them hip and makes them feel better. That is all there is about it. You use language, and you can't manage your emotions. It puts you down in society, and it makes people not want to be around you. Just my thought on it.

Oh swearing isn't so bad. What's the difference between saying 'poop' or the expletive version? They both mean the same thing. Why is it decided that even though two words mean the same thing one is a bad word? That just doesn't make any sense. Has anybody really thought about that? I enjoy my vulgar language purely because I don't see it as such. I amuse myself with how offended people get when I swear. WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? Do you want to know why bad words ARE bad words? Because one day someone just decided that a word should be bad. Ridiculous.

I have seen small children swear and it irritates because they seem to think it makes them adults. Maybe because their parents are saying things they shouldn't? And lets start washing the mouths of adults with soap when they curse. Maybe they should change first to get the younger people to stop. I have noticed that people who swear often seem to get less respect from mature adults compared to people who don't. The same goes for people who use too much slang.

Maybe this will be redundant, but swearing is a problem today because of all of the above mentioned things going on in the world. Just like the increase in violence. Lack of parental control tho cannot all be attributed to the parents themselves. It is difficult to raise a child in today's world and I am glad I don't have to. What with all the interference parents contend with from outside sources, especially the legal system. You hear constantly about some smart lawyer helping some wise kid sue his/her parents over some petty thing. I don't mean the truely legitimate cases where the child really needs help such as abuse. But, young children seem to get the idea from outside sources that they don't have to "mind" their parents. It probably has to do with a very young person's inablility to really understand circumstances, so they get wild ideas. I can remember when I was raising my teenage daughter. The principal at her school told me he wasn't there to "police" the children when I asked his help in not letting her leave the campus during lunch hour. She was getting into trouble outside school and as a single working parent, I wasn't available. So, she took the principal's answer to mean that she had the right to do as she pleased during school hours. Now, if she got away with defying me about this, she certainly wasn't going to be very mindful of language use either. I didn't tolerate her cursing at home, but I couldn't control her elsewhere. Sometimes you raise your children as right as you can, but the outside worlds seems to interfer with "parental rights" much to often.

Short Memory Of The Serbian People
The amount of stupidity of my own people amases me still... (8) Ok, so probably everyone has heard about the death of former president (or should I say, dictator)
of Serbia, and Yugoslavia, Slobodan Milosevic. Now, you probably think I'm going to put him to

about the unbelieveable stupidity of my own people, even some people close to me. This is the man,

I "should Of", He "would Of"
Increasing trend of bad language (11) I guess you have noticed that a lot of people using "of" instead of "have" when they speak. For
example, "The ref should of sent him off".... "He would of come if you go" etc.... Okay...it
doesn't sound much different when people speak because these "of"s are hardly be heard. But they
are now spread to webboard, chatrooms, and i find this really annoying. Wonder what our language
will be like when our kids grow.....
