It is a pain trying to have to write new code everytime you want to change something on my website. I know there is an easier way to update content. I read about COntent Management systems which apparently use XML. When I would enter the administartion area there woudl be dynamic fileds in which I could edit the data and when I click submit it would change. The thing is that I know how to add these forms to a page but I dont know how to create an adminstration area. I use php and one of my friends said to use XML. I have a book but it is taking a long time to read. Are there any quick sites I can go to? I know that there are content management systems for sale, but I would really not have to spend any money. Also, eventually with this CMS I would like to create an RSS feed but that is a logn way down the road. Can anybody help me with the CMS?
I think Mambo or Joomla (which are almost the same) fits the bill. It lets you make new content pages just by filling in some fields, and you can add additional funtionality to your site with modules and components. And there is a feature for making RSS feads of content items.
There are a lot of open source CMS (which means they are free). Those are (i think all but I am not sure) generally based in php/mysql. Here at trap seventeen (if you are hosted) you can try in your cPanel a quick install of the mentioned above CMS, depending entirely on your site, the complexity and extension of your site (and the purpose) is which CMS you would go for.
I would strongly suggest Wordpress, as is both simple and standards compliant. I like a lot Wordpress (go to wordpress.org/download/ cause wordpress.com is for the online based blogging system, that means you can't completely control the administration of your site), because of its simplicity but also because you can control a lot of what's going on in the template code, and you can develop a standards compliant, full xhtml/css site (as oposed to joomla,for example).
I've been working a lot with joomla lately and I dislike the way it works, it has a lot of non-semantical html, it does not go with the philosophy of XHTML. Its very big and very powerful, but its also very complex, not very recommendable for a newbie.
Nevertheless, if you'd like to try and see what are the options you can browse to www.opensourcecms.com, the slogan is "try before you install" that means that they have installed on their servers all the cms they present, besides of an explanation and reviews for those... they have the admin panel and the "default" front end for you to see (I say default because you can, and most likely you would WANT to, edit the default template to fit your design). Very good resource site, you would find that there are several types of cms, for online education (like moodle), for blogging (like wordpress or b2evolution), for portals (like xoops, joomla or mambo), for e-comerce, etc...

I just set up this website, none of the links are in working condition yet. This is mainly because
im trying to get rid of this anoyying gab in between my flash object and my welcome bar (its the
small dark grey/brownish gap). Does anyone know exactly how to fix this without messing anything

Hi I have a page with a form with some input fields. When it is submited it goes to the comfirmation
page. I want the form to have an input / button where if the user can enter/add more fields for
input. i.e or --> (update this form with more input fields) -->

Hey guys, I'm making a new template because I decided that I needed a much simpler one that

everything looks fine, but if the content area is smaller in length than the sidebar, then the

ok, well i had had people review Hogwartsmagic.net and they said that i should get it to not be one
huge image as a layout..and i have figured most of it out and it has proven sucessful! but now i
am having diffuclty, i am pretty much only a basicl HTML kinda person... and i was wondering if
anyone knows an html code that will allow one image to scroll the entire length of a pages content?
for example, if i were to add 200 links to the right navigation..the image would go with the

In my application I have a custom tag that generates all the action buttons that the page needs. My
problem is that in IE the space between the left side of the button and the image inside the button
are not consistant. Some buttons have 3 or 4 more pixels of padding on the left side then others.
This causes my buttons to be too large and hence the area the buttons are generated in stretches too
far. I could wrap the buttons around to another line or add scroll bars.. but if it will fit in FF I
think it should fit in IE as well. So my question is can I set the padding....
Hello, I have developed a website that is specific to IE. The website looks great on my local
machine. I then move it to my production environment. For some reason, the website now looks
different when I view it from the production server. The strange thing is... I am using the same
browser. I always believed that HTML was downloaded to the client and then it was up to the browser
to render it. Considering I am viewing the webpage using the same browser from my machine... I
should have received the same thing. Which lead me to believe that I didn't upload it prop....
Hey, I think this would be simple to html programmers.. but not to me. I got a website template to
make it easy, and there are boxes at the side that i can just put text in. But what I put in these
boxes I want to appear on every page of the site. So by doing that i put a piece of code in telling

After the last batch of hurricanes we lost 5 days of traffic due to power outages in S. Florida.
What I really want to do is redirect a visitor to a copy of the website if the original site takes
more than a set amount of time. If heavy traffic causes the original site to take more than 10
seconds to load I want the visitor automatically redirected to a copy on a different server. Can
this be done somehow? I'm thinking the requests might have to go through a first server that

Hey people, thanks for the help in advance. I notice that my competition refuses to put the time
into their websites that I do and have been stealing my pages. Copying my web text is one thing, but
I notice often times my entire page is stolen, from what looks like a 'Save Page As' deal.
What can I do to protect myself from this web theft, or at least to make it harder. I dont use any

hi guys, i am creating an FTP site which will have alot of folders on it each with subfolders and
so on. the folders will be created every day on a machine and then sent to the site. i wanted to
know if i can use a custom made DOS program created using the C language to upload the files and
create the folders on the site or do i have to upload the folders invidually. i am a complete
novice on FTP sites but have created a client for FTP transfers already, a pointer to a library of

The content on my pages either shifts or looks recognizably different between IE and Mozilla Firefox
browsers. I formatted the text with css classes hopping that might help. However, that didn't
help this problem. The page doesn't look the same in IE and Mozilla Firefox. What can I do to

ok, this code isn't supported by some browsers, like Firefox. But it still works for the
OnMouseOver. This code basically fades one images into another one. Really cool effect

find 6 images, 3 pair. your going to want to build buttons that are close in relation, so they fade
properly. Name the images as so: image1_on.gif , image1_off.gif image2_on.gif , image2_off.gif
image3_on.gif , image3_off.gif now put these in a folder called: "images" inside your original....
