Well, I'm a bit late, but submitting your site to as many search engines as possible and word of mouth is probably your best choice.
How? do u mean google ads or something?

 btw, if you want to get more visitors... make your site "famous!" Tell about it to your friends, submit it on Google and/or on other search engines, put it in your signature of every forum you frequent... 
how do you go about submitting your site to google? I would like to know.
They don't make it easy - when I first tried to get a site indexed by Google, it took a long time for me to find a link to their URL submission page, and I don't think I found it within Google.
Visit http://www.google.com/addurl.html to add your web site to their list of sites to crawl. It does, however, usually take a while for it to be fully indexed. If you get your site linked-to on enough other sites that are indexed by Google, yours will be bumped up in rank and you'll get better results. make sure that your pages has good metatags that match their content... in 1-2 months your site will be listed. when i did my website, i submitted it to different search engines. there are lots, even to those not too famous. There are also some forums which you can post ur site for them tto look. Spread it!!! =) go go!
The best way is to tell your freinds and family about your website. If your website has good content and interesting stuff, people will naturally come. These type of things take time.
When I first started out my webpage and forum: http://limzb.uni.cc/news I also had very little people. A few months down(which is now), I only have 33 registered members in my forum. This goes to show that it is not easy to attract people to your site/forum. It really takes time and patience.
^ Not only does it take time and patience. You have to have something that people want. Make sure that your website offers something that no other site offers, or atleast make it higher-quality then the others. Then, hope for the best.

just spam some forums. it'll get you traffic and get you listed.
Well i had a very good run Emulation website up. I got 200+ a day yet no-one went into my forums. I used a submission site and i entered it into a top100 site and i came around 6-7 every day.
You can always either submit it to some top100 whatever ppl always view the sites there or just as above search engines...
