I honestly think DIVX is out dated. When in the days of pre MP3 and MPEG-3 & 4, the DIVX encoding was the greatest way to truncate large, high quality video into manageable file size (mainly to fit into one single CD). After the introduction to MPEG-4 and WMA/V's sophisticated encoding methods, I think Windows Media Encoder 9 is the best. Not only it can encode as fast as DIVX and in similar most optimized files size, but Windows Media Encoder also has easier method to have your sound in true 5.1 surround. With DIVX you have to record the sound in 5.1 separately and re-synchronize it. This sometimes leads to sound not matching the movie.
And the best of all, Windows Media Encoder is free and you don't have to use proprietary program to use it.
actually, I find realmedia's RM and RMVB is the best. a 700mb divx movie can be reduced to 350mb without any noticable reduction in quality. it is great. downloading is much easier when it is half the size. I can get a whole movie in 20mins rather than 40mins.
Back on topic though, There are a bunch of programs that will convert to DivX. Just google it. A basic converter that is good for beginners is WinAVI. You can use it to rip a DVD to DivX or convert many other formats to divx
Well, you can use AutoGK (autogk.net) Personally, I prefer to use XviD encoding. I'm more an open source person, but I think its much better. Windows media=meh if you're going for cross platform compatability (mac/*nix) That's the main reason I use XviD encoded AVI's for the site I run. It may be worth looking in to... Xvid.org
yea xvid has really nice qulaity. It an average size file but the quality is really amazing. I would using a converting program which you can search on google and encode to that if your dvd player or whatever your using it for supports those files.
best software for converting Movie files to Divx format is VirtualDub. It gives you lost of options in your convertion process. I should say that it only supports avi files but there are some other version supporting mpeg2 files. i myself have used it for along time for my convertion projects. for doing the convertion you must also have DIVX Codec on your OS. there alot of sites you can find guides for converting video formats:
Its really distracting seeing people "create" what they think are master pieces on windows movie
maker. Its the lamest and really requires no skill. So im gunna whack my vote on Adobe Premiere Pro
2 and Adobe After Affects 7 combined to make the best in the video editing range. It requires stacks
of skills, you can download plenty of add-on effects and you can futher mod it if you wish in After
Affects. These versions are one behind in the Adobe range since Adobe released its CS3 Prefix to all
their newly upgraded versions. The new CS3 Prefixed Premiere is now compatibl....
Hi, although it has some useful features and it's (i'd hope so...) well integrated with the
shell, the file explorer that comes with windows xp is not the best we can ask for... so I've
always tried to use various other pieces of softwares randomly found on the net whenever I've
had to intensively work on my file directory... still I haven't found a very good one, all
those I tried have some kind of bug or they are not really user friendly in some occasions... would
anyone suggest a good FREEWARE file explorer? thanks /wink.gif" style="vertical-al....
Hey guys, Sorry if this isn't in an appropriate section it's kinda difficult to navigate
all the sections to find one that suits each issue, and from what I can tell there isn't a
general " ask questions here about random stuff" section. I'm sure almost everyone here has
been on YouTube, Google video, or a site like those that contain tutorials for photo shop,
programing, or anything else that you can find on your computer. I was wondering if you guys knew
what kind of software they use? I'm looking to take video of me working on my computer....
Have you all hear a software called Defraggler? Well if not, I recommend you to download this
software. What does it do? Simple, it'll quickly defrag files you want to defrag, no need to
defrag the whole drive. Useful if you have less fragmented file and if you hate Windows's
original defragger. And it's free! OS Supported and filesystem supported? All Windows 2000
or higher (it'll be Windows 2000, 2003, XP and Vista. 64-bit support too) It support NFTS and
FAT32 Requirement? Well not much, the EXE file even smaller than 1 MB (dont judge the power ....

I am looking for a free, decent video editing software. It does not need a lot of features. But I
would like it to have the "slicing options", so I can split/cut films. I would also like it to have
a simple intro option, just making simple intros with text. And the last thing, this is really
important so listen up: It must not require my computer to have sound. I messed something up, so the
sound is not working. This is causing my Windows Movie Maker not to work - since it requires some
stuff. I know that I should fix this, but I will be getting a new laptop in a few mon....

Say I want to transfer a big file; with explorer, all you get is a small box estimating how much
time it takes and you can't pause it if it takes to long. But would there be a program that does
the same thing, but it displays the %, the speed, etc. and have the ability to pause the transfer,
and/or verify the copy when the transfer is done? Oh and maybe have the ability to make a sharing
folder (or something similar) which copies the contents on both (or more) computers either
automatically or periodically....
