I'm helping a guy re-design his site who currently has a version of mambo installed. What i want to do is make a copy so that i can fiddle around with the layout without stuffing up the site. I also want to upgrade it to joomla but thats not as much of a priority.
Any ideas on how i do this?
My idea was to just copy the files installed in the mambo dir into a new folder. Will this work? I can't imagine it will be this simple. |

Hi there , This aint a solution .. Joomla! and Mambo are 2 different CMSs . In to switch into Joomla! from Mambo you'll need to do "Migration" In migration process , you change Mambo old database structure to suit Joomla! ,slightly different, structure .. OK, to backup the current site download the entire Mambo directory from the hosting account (via FTP) and save that somewhere on your PC. Then go into PHPMyAdmin and download a .SQL file for all the tables and the data they contain. That is the most important part, as that stores all the actual information on the site. You can then edit the site on the web hosting knowing you have a safe backup you can revert to. If you want to edit it locally then you're gonna need PHP and MySQL installed. To convert from Mambo to Joomla you will need to follow the advice given by Mohammed above.

Error Installing Template In Joomla! 1.5.7

Transfering A Joomla Site

My New Site Template
Heres a new template of mine done in photoshop (3) This is my new template I'm going to be using for my new site. It took me 3 days to do. I spend

A Small Html Problem
How to display foreign characters correctly when designing a site. (5) I was wondering how I could solve a small problem. I was told that some people see accented and
umlauted letters (such as " é " and " ë ") as question marks (" ? ") on my website. I come across
the same thing sometimes when looking at websites which use non-English characters. Funnily enough,
the other day, I looked at a site and the apostrophy ( ' ) was also shown as a question mark.
That is a very common character usually, I would think. I thought it had something to do with the

Mambo and Joomla. I have to say I finally have gotten the hang of it. Im learning how to manipulate
