| | I aquired this computer through a program at my little brother's school. For some reason, a compay called CyberStudies101.com figured that if they gave out free computers to student who failed the math proficiency test the year before, the kids would go to their site every day and use it. (YEAH RIGHT).
We never used the site, the site was slow, and down more than half the time.
So, in the end we got a free quality AMD System for absolutely nothing.
I defy you to post a more interesting story. |

That's a good way of getting a new system. Just like the case of "itssami"...in my case...my brother was doing software engg. and for that he needed the computer and my Dad paid for it...but that was 6 years ago...now when I felt that the computer is completely out of date..(it was PIII 500 Mhz) i updated my system and I have paid for the upgradation.

My computer is a laptop from a German manufacturer called Gericom. I had no plans of getting it actually, but then I went to this electronics store in Hamburg Germany and saw an incredible deal. It was along the lines of the best laptop of its time for a price like 700 euros. Since I could also get a tax refund for it I had no choice but to buy it

I had $500.. decided to buy a bunch of parts and teach myself how to build a desktop compy.. it actually wasn't very hard ^^ ..never did get around to fixing that laptop, though o.o (Scrapped its 40GB harddrive, got a USB convertor.. made it into a portable HD ^^; )

I got my first system three years back in december 2002. Fortunately / unfortunatley it is my present system also. It is a PIII 1.3 Gz system with 40 GB harddisk. But I simply love it because of the reason I bought it my savings over a year. It was a long time desired which got fulfilled with it. I was thinking and dreaming about qwning one since the time thay were launch here in India. I was facinated with this technological marvel since my school days. Back at school we use to have special classes where we were only alloowed to work on 286 or 386 systems with big 51/2 inch floppies once in a fortninght. Then in college there was introduction of Internet. It used to cost us heaven. At that point of time it cost around 2 INR/ minute (or 3USD/Hour).

I built mine about half a year or so ago, hoping to create a powerful gaming computer that was also silent (liquid cooling system) and pleanty of resources for my multiple uses. I bought all the parts off of Newegg and had it put together within a day. Since, I believe I have wiped the hard drive and reinstalled everyone only once, since I've been using a stricter system to avoid garbage and spyware buildup on my computer.

The way I got this computer was a combination of things. For my birthday my dad gave me computer parts (he didn't want to pay for labor) and I built it so its a birthday present/I built it.

My story is not as interesting and advantage-taking as yours but I will post mine nonetheless. I figured I was going to do a lot of projects while in my 2nd year of tertiary education mainly programming. I can't be walking around in the campus looking for an empty computer lab all the time and wait to get home before starting on my programming project. So I decided to head down to my local Harvey Norman retailer and purchase a laptop. At that point of time, I wasn't too concerned what brand I would buy, be it an Acer, HP, Compaq, Fujitsu ... etc, I was introduced to a Sony Vaio laptop. I was fascinated by the design of the laptop, one which is used for large scale video editing and also entertainment purposes. Its specs were one of the best around there and on top of that, it was the only laptop providing wide-screen resolution, very useful for me especially as I do designs using photoshop, it could really help me. Some bundled software came with it, namely Sonic products (Burner, Music player, editor ... etc) and Adobe (Premiere). I have been using this laptop for a year and I am very satisfied with it. I will definitely continue using Sony Vaio if they are going to cater to Macintosh OSes, but I guess that won't be happening anytime soon.

I defy you to post a more interesting story. Well it would have been nice if I were to get a free computer. Sadly that wasn't my case Well I was in the 5th grade (my parents long promised me a computer once I'll be in the 5th grade). They didn't have all the money for it and as we don't like borrowing money from banks, they started buying my computer piece by piece. And for almoust half an year every month they bought some part of my computer. The funny part of my story comes now... as the computer's parts where all on my sofa I was eager to see it working that everyday I used to hug and kiss the computer's components. Yeah that was stupid, but I was 11 years old and there wasn't anything on the world that could make me happier then my own computer. And, even though I have changed it a few times since I bought it 8 years ago, I can say I still love it.

I found my first computer in the bin, along with a gigabyte motherboard and an Intel 486 60MHz chip. Yes I was quite happy until the computer game people starting making games for faster PCs I now get my dad's old PC when he upgrades. I now have a...... and don't laugh.......Pentium III 650MHz 256MB ram. It serves its perpose for the time being and it's better than nothing.

Widescreen Computer Display
Is it better? (7) What do you think of the widescreen display laptops are beginning to adopt nowadays? Is that the
right way to go? Or should we stick to our original display (800 * 600, 1024 * 768 ... etc) instead
of (1280 * 800). For me I think these widescreen display should be the way to go, it allows you
more space to do your stuff especially if you are doing some image editing, and that requires a huge
amount of resolution size. There is an argument whereby you can increase your resolution to make it
tinier so that you can have more space but then again, the problem with making the....
