I bought a 250gig SATA (Serial Ata) thinking I was getting an IDE. It was an error on my part, and I can't return i because I bought it on sale. Stupid me. I was thinking of buying a SATA -> IDE converter, runs $35-$50 canadian. But I was also thinking, perhaps someone would like to trade for a IDE drive if they have a SATA. IF anyone has an IDE harddrive 180GB +... I would love to trade. If we can make it possible.

In package (no cables), however I opened the package. It has been sitting in my drawer for roughly 8 months now and I haven't bothered to get the convertor. If I cant trade it, I'll probably just go and get the converter when I have an extra $50.

Hi there! I recently re-installed windows on my 250 gb WD SATA hard drive. I had a 50 gb
windows partition and the rest for files. First thing that happened was my system partition
wouldn't boot and eventually chkdsk said that the mbr was unrecoverable. A friend recommended
that i use a seperate parallel hard drive to load windows and then convert the disk to dynamic in
disk management. I did this, but the computer crashed and now windows won't even load with the
SATA hard drive connected. The BIOS sees the SATA hdd, but that's as far as I can get. I tri...
I just bought a Samsung SpinPoint 250 GB SATA hard drive last night from Micro Center. The windows
installation disk will not detect it. I have a Abit VT-7 mobo, which does support SATA. I used the
included driver floppy to boot with the installation disk, but it refuses to recgonize it. I'm
going to try to flash the BIOS, but I wanted to know if ya'll had any other ideas. Topic title
is very important. Try naming it with more effort. ...
In other news Hitachi Global Storage Technologies mentioned that it plans to bring out a whopping 4
TB hard drive by 2009 for Desktops and 1 TB for laptops, using two types of technologies. The
called GMR or (giant magnetoresistance), "a physical effect that manipulates the charge and spin of
electrons, allowing an increase in density and storage on hard drives"; which interestingly enough
helped to physics scientists when a nobel prize for this technology. The other technology which is
need because of how sensitive the heads have to be in order to read the data on the...

Hi guys, I have a IDE Hard drive i think. It says ATA/100 or something like that. I want to add
another hard drive to my computer so i have two. I have a one of those flat cables that connects
the hard drive to the Motherboard and it has one more port coming off to plug in one more hard drive
to that cable. What is the difference between SATA and IDE and is IDE the same as ATA/100? Can i
get an SATA cable and plug it into my ATA/100 or should i just get another ATA/100 hard drive?
Thanks...
