| | Without the Higgs boson (Higgs field), all matter would move at the speed of light. Dark energy causes expansion of the universe, this is held in check by the higgs field. These two fields cancel each other out almost exactly. The resulting value is Einstein's cosmological constant which needs to lie within very narrow limits; the value is fine tuned to a hundred decimal places in order to allow a universe to exist long enough for intelligent life to evolve. Some people take this as evidence that our universe is just an infinitesimal small part a vast multiverse. My question is, will the existence of the Higgs boson be found? Or will we have to rewrite the standard model? |
