I've been using Word2003 to make web-pages (cheapskate!) but am getting an annoying problem with big files. If the file is over ca. 450K when I open it I get a error message something like 'Word has insufficient memory - you will not be able to undo this action. Continue yes/no' The strange this is, whether I click Yes or No it still opens the document and the 'Undo' feature does still work... ? But when I save it I sometimes lose some of my data, and sometimes Word 'crashes'. (I would expect Word to be able to handle any size file - maybe I am being unrealistic). Does anyone out there know if there is a way to overcome this irritating problem? Cheers.

Hello, I'm not a wizz on a PC as of yet but I'm learning things as I go along.
But I may be wrong when I say this okay so don't get annoyed with me too. LOL

I think the problem you might be having because oif it crashing will bve that the version of Microsoft Word is too old & a newer version will have more sufficent memory to manage your documents.

But keep in mind I may be wrong but in my mind I wouldn't of thought that my guess would be wrong from what you are saying.

The reason for it because word uses up alot of ram and opening a document of that size will put it to over kill what i suggest is that I would do the following.

Remove any programs that you never use anymore

next do this Try going start-->run-->msconfig-->startup--> turn off programs that your not even using when you start up your computer. But make sure you know what program is what.

Download this html editor it's FREE http://www.evrsoft.com/1stpage2.shtml

Download RAM DEF-this program will clean up memory for you. I usually run it several times to get ample RAM.

Also doing html sites through word will also rpoduce alot of junk code best thing to do also is edit it through notepad because notepad is your friend.

Have you tried downloading OpenOffice to see if this problem goes away using it?
As Saint Michael suggests, try to eliminate some load from your machine and re-try.
Failing that, check to see if you could upgrade your machine by adding some more RAM.
And be careful using Word to create (x)html documents. MS proprietary code gets all over the code you write and the file type must be monitored. You would be better off using something like Context, atext editor specific to coding. Google on it.

I'll try some of things & see what happens.

As some point soon I will probably invest in some proper web-page software...
What's best (easiest to use), Microsoft, Mozzila, or something else...?
