I was evaluating games sites for my "Play" page, when a message came up that McAfee had trapped a Trojan Horse virus. I want to warn my visitors to stay away from that site, but McAfee didn't say where the virus came from. My question is: Could that virus have come from some other site, but took McAfee a few minutes to find it or is it an instantaneous thing, so I know that the site I was on was the culprit? Is there a Virus Buster in our midst who'd like to track this down and nail the bleep or should I just forget about it and move on? As you've probably guessed, I've never had a virus before. I'm on AOL, with the new security features, but that exhausts my knowledge of the subject. TIA for your help. Suz

Depending on your memory, the speed of your computer, adn other things like that, the blocking may or may not have been instantaneous. If you know the websites that you visited, since you know McAfee does block the trojan, maybe try onme site a day and see which site McAfee picks the virus up on. The virus could have come from another site, but it would have to be through a link or code on the site you visited. Also, if you want to, provide the sites you visited and the name of the trojan (if you remember it or McAfee gave it to you) and I could track it down (probably).

The site I was on was barponline.com. I lost all the other info when McAfee took over and scanned my whole system (basically because I didn't know what I was doing). It takes about an hour to do a complete scan on my system after McAfee traps a virus, and I'm too nervous to NOT to a complete scan, since McAfee recommends it.

I'll let you try it, first. If you don't find anything, I'll try again. If you do get a virus off that site I'll start shouting it from the rafters.

Glad to be of assistance, and I'm glad you posted this. I'm to cheap to buy protection for my computer, so the I have to be careful where I visit if I'm not on the family computer.

Okay, here's the whole story:

I went online to research game sites for my husband to evaluate. I loaded Galaxy Casino, Dragon Court, and Barponline. They all sat there for about an hour, then I got Bob to check them out. I had already registered our email address with Galaxy, about an hour before, and we hung out there for about another half hour, so I don't think there was a problem with that one.

Next, we tried Dragon Court. They also wanted an email address, so we gave it to them and got this back:

Hi There,

This is an automated message from Dragon Court with your newly created character and password:
Hero = [FarBarger]
Pass = [denihuj]

Later Dates,
-AI Fred-

Bob didn't like that one so he went on to Barponline, after only about 5 minutes.

When he got to Barp, he started to create a character, but then it asked for his email address. When he tried to type it in, he made a typo and got an error message. He didn't want to lose his character, so he tried to back up and fix it. That's when the McAfee box came up.

I checked out the various sites and did not seem to pick up a virus. I think the trojan came from elsewhere and was either activated on a delay, or by something else you did. I, however, feel those sites are safe, and you may place them on your review site with no fear that people will gain viruses.

Hmm, I use AOL and have gotten a few virus's, try using Norton's and see if it tells you where it is located, it usually will in the logs,I've never used MCaffee, but if they have any type of logging mechanism check them thoroughly...

might have missed it in all the threads but also you never know if that virus could have been dorment and in hidding someplace on your hard drive too. Could be said in another place but Give AVG a try also. I have found it great for finding the hidden ones.
