Yeah not o much Dial up around. But I guess just go buy another modem - there must be millions of old modems for sale - they might even give away one if you just need 1 simply line and you are dial up and 56KB. I dont no about software - some computers have a built in modem that works for 56 dial up. Thats an option have you checked.

I had dual-up connection too, but 28.8 kb/s. And I wholly was enough to speed. Now, i'm have 8 mb/s, it's perfect )))

I use 56.6k modems as well. I have no problems, apart from the fact that the connection gets severed every 60 to 90 minutes... but I don't mind.

If you search the web, many software is available to boost internet connection speed. Just Google it.

I do not know of anything that can help faulty connections, however...

there are a few reasons why your modem would keep on disconectting. I have a 56k modem that runs at 53.2 k for the whole weekend without disconectting.
1 make sure all the connections are clean and connected properly. from the jack to the modem from the modem to the pc and that from the telephone jack to where ever your main telephone goes is also connected properly.

2. get the latest software that is compatible with both the modem and windows xp and it would not hurt to format and have one setup just to use for the internet and another for everything else. And try and get 512mb of memory or more.

3. try to keep cable from the telephone jack to the modem as short as possible to prevent latency and also use a thickest cable that is shielded to prevent disruptions modems are very sensitive to data disruptions !! and make sure there are no twist or kinks in the cable.

if all of this does not help your modem could be faulty, my old modem would disconnect frequently until we found out it was damaged once we got new one perfect

ive heard something about getting your modem uncapped but im not sure what it means

Modem uncapping is an, often semi-illegal, method of boosting your cable internet connection.

Try using WinRAR to open your BIN file. You can download it at http://rarlabs.com/.

yes, as uiop said, winrar should be able to open .bin, if not an image burner can burn it to CD.

IMHO the solution to your problem is called "broadband"... even the cheapest dial-up is still paying to much money compared with the boradband prices out there today.

Disconnections are sometimes and usually due to the faulty telephone wiring in your home, or somewhere between your home and the telephone company or ISP. Also, since you are using 56k modem, your internet connection might be anytime disconnected due to the fact of noise in your telephone cable. Noise is generated when there is interference in your telephone cable. That includes magnetic elements, and can also be caused by picking up your phone while you are connected to the internet. Hence if possible, avoid all these. Broadband on the other hand, is not vulnerable to noise as easy as 56k connection. You may still talk on the phone while connected in an ADSL network.

Ways to boost internet connection speed:

P2P software - The so called "addon" accelerators don't work very well. Instead, disable sharing or uploading.

Downloading from HTTP or FTP servers: Have multiple connections. Use a Download Manager such as GetRight.

Browsing the Internet: Use Mozilla Firefox. Type about:config in the address bar. Change the following values:

browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction = 3
dom.popup_maximum = Any number less than 5. 3 is recommended.
network.http.max-connections = (Dial-Up/DSL internet: 48; Cable/T1 Internet: 96)
network.http.max-connections-per-server = (Slow: 16/Fast 32)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy = 8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server= 8
network.http.pipelining = True
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 8
nglayout.initialpaint.delay = 0

That should speed it up a lot.

Extra Tips: (Gah, I didn't notice you solved your problem)

I used to have dial-up... Untiil now. I now use Broadband DSL and I'm happy with it! smile.gif Nothing can truly boost dial-up speed efficiently. You try cache-ing programs when you surf. It just gives you an illusion that your surfing speeds are faster, but in fact, the files are stored in your harddrive for faster access. If you want better speed in the download area, you can get download managers that can connect to different servers simultaneously. Another solution is to get broadband, but I know some countries don't really have it cheap or have it at all, so I can understand your situation if you don't live in a "digitalized" country.
