I agree, most viruses won't go show themselves on your computer that easily, if you installed some antivirus software i bet your computer would be loaded.

The safest way to prevent viruses is not going to sites that you don't trust, like a crack/warez site, porn site, or hacking sites (AKA, illegal or "under the table" sites).

As far as limewire goes, it's virtually safe as long as you're not stupid when opening files. If you're using WMP, and it asks you to download an update when you're only viewing this one file you got on limewire, for instance, you would not want to do it. As long as you're not retarded you can use it without getting any virii.

if you want a virus and you dont have active x installed , go to emp3world.com and it'll ask you to install it in order to view the page properly you may get a nice body onload trojan , well i have mcafee instaaled and running and i got that virus as gift two times when i was hunting for mp3's in that site

WOW thanks - I feel enlightened already... I have only ever had two viruses and they were at the same time... I got them off a CD - it was a properly bought 'rayman' CD. I couldn't believe it! it stumped me because then every copy made in that same batch would have a virus... Norton detected it (love norton by the way - stopped me downloading 2 viruses from Morpheus, but you can avoid em mostly by just being sensible - I mean... cmon... is something really oging to be "Age of empires 5000 Never before released, the best version known to man, 100kb, exe file)
And no i'm not making up the rayman CD stuff, I scanned the disk too and sure enuf it contained a pretty nasty virus... Unfortunately tho the rayman was installed and it took me ages to get rid of the virus file... permanently in use so I had to delete it through MS-DOS and delete things from the registry .

Norton is great... you just start downloading something and it stopes it immediately and tells ya too whilst actually being able to delete it (many other scanners AV software won't be able to delete anything...) Better than my friend's 49 Sasser / Korgo Worm / Virus Combo on his comp. No wonder his motherboard snapped in half tho . Nah... that was just a flying shoe!!!

I dont know if this is the case, but it sounds to me...you might be going through , 'if i dont go to the docter, there is nothing wrong with me.' But i could be wrong. But how do you really know you dont have a virus, if you do not have a firewall, or a virus detecter? Even if you do safe searching , viruses can pop up. Even, searches made, that were 'innocent' [lack of a better word] can bring in viruses, a lot of free sites contain a lot of viruses, because of the ads. I am a pretty safe internet person , I rarely get a virus, even with using IE, but i use firefox 90% of the time. I get spyware/adaware, but it isn't harmful to my computer, just if anything an invasion of privacy. I get a virus once in a great while, and honestly its when someone else has gone on my computer, more thank likely used IE instead of FF. But i have adaware devices, and virus scans to help me...But id suggest you get one, because if you dont have one [ a virus ] your luck is bound to run out sometime.

well i bet if you installed ur computer with a antivirus i bet you would have a few worms and adware as even firefox wont protect you. the only way you could get away without getting a virus is dont have access to the internet.

My dad's the absolute epitome of a computer-newbie. He loves finding new programs that appear to be cool, and actually end up screwing up his computer. It doesn't help, then, that his entire desktop is cluttered with programs meant to get RID of the bad programs. My method of doing this is somewhat different. For one, I don't download things I don't need. I use Firefox with add-ons like Dutchblock, Fasterfox, etc. I check for spyware, adware, and viruses at least once a week. I mean, that's only going to take care of the evident problems you have. Viruses are a lot sneakier than that. No one's computer is truly clean, but at least I think I'm on the right track.

you've probobly got a ton of adware though. look for a free download of "adaware" on http://www.download.com to find and remove it.

Do you go on your PC alot?

I've only had one virus before, and it as relativly minor. But if you use your c for busness then its usually better to be safe than sorry.
