| | QUOTE(FolkRockFan @ May 23 2007, 08:26 PM) My father, though, tells me that the blood gases draw hurts like crazy. I'm just going to trust him on that one and hope that I never have to have it done Yes, blood gasses, which uses a thicker needle and are taken from the wrist hurt much more than blood taken from the inner elbow. Add to that they generally bruise and cause discomfort in the wrist for a couple of days and they really suck. |

I remember when I was a kid I found these syringes(disposable) in their packets and I was too curious and got one of them out and was playing with it and then felt like touching the tip and before I knew it the needle was in the tip of my finger and it stung like hell. Lucky It came out the instant I yanked it off. I have been pricked by sewing needles a lot and they too sometimes have gotten stuck in my finger. Most of the doctors who take my blood tests are really nice people because I make it a habit to first talk to them and let them relax in case they have had a jerky client, It works most of the times. One doc remembers me for I was smiling even though I was made to wait for more than an hour.

I'm not too fond of needles, I used to be very scared of them. I haven't had one in a while so I'm not very sure, hopefully I'm not bothered by them. But a few years ago I would really get scared of them because it seemed to really hurt for me or maybe it was just me thinking it was hurting than it really was that does happen sometimes.

Needles do bother me, but when I get them I just don't feel it. Its like: It bothers me before hand, but at the time of the injection, it doesn't.

They freak me out. I don't know why. I don't think its the pain as much as it is the feeling and just thinking about it.

If you mean by regular needles, then yes. It freaks me out when I step on rusty ones or something like that. Don't want to go through that again...

Well, I wasn't really afraid of needles even as a child (or at least that's what I remember). However, I do know that I couldn't look while I'm getting the shots for medicine or just for blood testing. I think I was more afraid of the process of getting punctured instead of the exact needle itself. When I got hit by typhoid fever I was hospitalized and needed to stay for more than a week. At first the whole lying down all day sucked. And to make things worse, I needed to be tested everyday so they need to take some blood every morning. Changing the IV sucked as well. There was this one doctor who couldn't get the needle through the one of the veins in my right hand. She kept on telling me that "it was just a test", but I really know she couldn't get it right. It kinda irritated me because my hand was itchy and she kept on doing that. Later on, I think she gave up and just punctured it where she thought she hit the right spot. Unfortunately, later during the day, I realized my hand was swelling, only to find out that she didn't do it properly. They had to remove the IV from my hand and transfer it to the other hand. It's a good thing I only encounter needles when I need to get some blood tests these days. I really don't like hospitals that much, not because of the doctors or anything, heck not even the needles. I just don't like the fact that I need to lie down on a bed for almost an entire day.

needles freak me out, since I recintly come into a new country I have to have these 'immunisations' who knows what they really are but the needles, even though they are tiny they feel like they touch the bone and hurt for many days on end. They should really give people pills instead of needles

Well, I dont have a problem with needles. Like i guess when im about to get a shot and i see it its kinda like "Uh-oh..." but thats pretty much always when you know you're gonna have some pain soon. My mom on the other hand.... when she was a kid 4 nurses had to hold her down everytime XD!!! Its weird, her fear kinda stuck... Yesterday we were watching law and order right? And they were giving this guy medicine and she has to turn away when he gets a shot... Like needles are scary for her. I was just kinda like "???? You dont look away when theres an injured guy on TV and you flip out when theres a needle?!!" .... weird.

Mmmm, needles don't really bother me anymore. WHen I was younger they used to, but Now I don't even really feel them. Everytime I get blood drawn, I have no problem looking down and watching the needle hang in my arm filling with my blood. I thought I wasa going to have a problem when I first got tested for cholestorol, but I turned out to be wrong.
