Harddisk Problem
I put in a second hard drive in my computer but it still has xp on it so when connected system wont boot as there are two operating systems how can I format second drive when I cant get in-reply by timmo
i got 2 harddisks. 1 is olmost full, so i wanted to copie somethings in my second harddisk (wich i never used before) But when i cross the (About) 6 gigabyte... the disk says that its full... but it can hold 93 gig. And i checked the particle thingy... and cleaned the disk... nothing works...
Hummm without knowing how you set your computer up it's bit hard to tell. But looks like Windows 98 issue to me. If your physical hard drive can hold 100GB but you formatted your drive using Windows format command, probably it formatted to only 6GB maximum.
If this is the case, you should FDISK 6GB at a time until you run out of the space. In which case you'll have about 17 drives letters
But could you tell us more about your system settings (what OS, how you installed, how many physical drives, what software used to format etc)
you old is the computer or the BIOS? 6.4GB is a limit to old file systems... is the free space detected correctly? you say 93 GB, where do you see that?
have you checked to see if windows thinks that you have a 100gig hdd fitted. go on my computer and look at the total size of the hdd .... is it what you think it should be ??? if not .... go into your bios and see if your bios is reporting back the hdd that you think it should be. if it is not .... it might be that if its an old motherboard you will have to flash the bios to enable it to see hdd greater than 8.4gig.
i allready found the problem, a friend helped me with it. my primary harddisk was a "Nfts" that is a harddisk type from windows 2000/xp/ect. but my other was a FAT32 and that "FAT32" was from back in the days of DOS, so you coudn't transfer more then 4 gig. But i converted it to a NFTS, so no problem
I think you dont set your jumper ( black of hard) send one hard to Master slave and another to secend slave if you have writer or cd rom you must user another port on your mainboard

How do people post like this and stay active?!? You need to be more specific in your answers to people that are not as tech savvy as yourself. The jumpers that are being talked about are on the back of your hard drive, and normally there are three settings. The first is Master, the second is as Slave, and the third is as a (CS) Cable select, which means whichever cable is physically tied to that drive(By means of a physical turn of the cable.) And also, there are normally two interfaces for your drives, which are refered to as "IDE" or "EIDE" connectors. You have a primary (1), and a secondary (2), controller, normally found on your motherboard. If you set a jumper as a "Master" on your IDE "Primary", #1 controller, you would have to set up your secondary hard drive or CD-Rom as a "Secondary" on the same "Primary" line. Hope you understand what I am trying to teach you! If you need help, I would gladly asssist you!

Another is that your disk could be partitioned, to check, go to administrative tools, computer management, and then to storage. the second disk should be completely "blue" if it is not and says unallocated, then the hard drive is partitioned. If it is partitioned, backup the data on your second hard drive, then delete the partition in the computermanagement -disk tool and create one to fill up the 100GB hard drive.

Make sure you aren't using an operating system that can only support a limited hard disk (Windows 98) If you are using Windows XP, try disconnecting your first hard drive, put the second in it's place, and see if that works. Assuming your first HDD is the master HDD, make sure your second HDD is set to be a slave hard disk. Two master hard drives can cause alot of trouble. If none of those work, keep your first hard drive out, get a boot disk (I reccommend a Windows XP boot disk) and try using Fdisk on it and reformat it. If you are still having problems, I recommend a full reformat. There are programs that will completly wipe out your harddrive, more than the Windows boot disk will, this should fix it, if it doesn't, it is not your hardware.
I just bought that disk (seagate SATA 500G) half year ago and found it stop working randomly,
resulting the whole system to be dead. BTW, I am using Win XP. I tried to use seatool, provied by
seagate, to scan and repair the error, the program stop at the half of the process. I even can't
format entirely, just do quick format. I don't know what I can do and have been pissed off for a
few days. hope some people have this kind of experience and give me any idea. I don't want to
loss my 500G data storeage. thanks in advance.....
Need your HELP! Today I had to reinstall my operating system and low and behold my A:/ drive
is not working. I have replace the drive and still nothing. My Hard drive and CD rom are showing up
when I go into the BIOS, but are also not reading. I downloaded a Fresh copy of Dos 6.22 which is
what I normally deal with on this PC. I even tried replacing the Jumper Cables from the mother
board to the A Drive, and still Nothing. This is really bugging me. The PC is a Home Brew by the
way.....
A harddisk essentially consists of a flat plate like object that is polished to achieve a mirror-
like effect. This is the hard disk’s platter, and this is where the data is actually stored
using the magnetic properties of the materials the platter made of. Hard disks of today feature
multiple platters. Each platter usually has read/write head attached to it, which in turn is
attached to an arm or actuator that moves the head over the platter. Writing is achieved by
subjecting the platter to a magnetic flux by the write head, which lead to the change of polarizat....
I just bought a Samsung SpinPoint 250 GB SATA hard drive last night from Micro Center. The windows
installation disk will not detect it. I have a Abit VT-7 mobo, which does support SATA. I used the
included driver floppy to boot with the installation disk, but it refuses to recgonize it. I'm
going to try to flash the BIOS, but I wanted to know if ya'll had any other ideas. Topic title
is very important. Try naming it with more effort. ....
(Sorry if I posted in the wrong place but I wasn't sure where to put this, move the topic if in
wrong place, thanks). I have this random problem with my pc, and it randomly happened. I turned off
my computer normally at night and came back the next day. I tried turning on the computer and it
came up with something saying like windows could not open and came up with choices. Either I start
the comp in safe mode, safe mode with prompt, with the setting that last worked best, or just start
normally. None of them work! It comes up with the loading xp thing, (the log....
Well, as you can see from the title I have a very big problem which is really bugging me. I
currently possess the trust 400 v2 wireless tablet; before when i bought it it worked fully after
installing al the software which i was meant to - the drivers etc and all fllowing the instruction
manual. That was a while back, then i reformatted my pc and the tablet was left unused for a while
and the battery was taken out. Now, some months later i insert a new battery and install the whole
thing again according to the manual - it worked seamlessly for some hours, pressure and....
Hi there! I recently re-installed windows on my 250 gb WD SATA hard drive. I had a 50 gb
windows partition and the rest for files. First thing that happened was my system partition
wouldn't boot and eventually chkdsk said that the mbr was unrecoverable. A friend recommended
that i use a seperate parallel hard drive to load windows and then convert the disk to dynamic in
disk management. I did this, but the computer crashed and now windows won't even load with the
SATA hard drive connected. The BIOS sees the SATA hdd, but that's as far as I can get. I tri....
