| | I have had it in mind to install a 2nd OS in my computer. For now, I am running WIN XP Home Edition build 2600 and I want to install Mandrake Linux as a 2nd operating System. I have heard that it is not advisable to install 2 OSs in the same HDD partition and for now, my 80Gigbyte HDD has only one partition.
If anyone knows how to partition a HDD into 2 or 3 partitions for different OSs, please tell me.
I will be most grateful to you all for all your kind help and sugestions.

Take my advice and always keep Windows in Root partition. Linux is not a CooL operating system to work with. I have used both linux and windows over a year. Windows makes my work easier and things are fast. There are less bugs or problems. also I find my pc gives better performance with windows. So, If you plan to un-install linux, you are assured that your data is safe. If you put in a root partition, and un-install it in future, your primary partition becomes unstable and you end up losing everything.

Well i have to argey wit admin lenix is hard to lern and use but if you rely want it your have to re instal win xp and when you do it you need to leave lile 20 to 30 giges that are just sitting ther and then you got to take lenex and instal it on those giges hop this helps

the best way to create a new partition is by using programs like norton partition magic. It will allow you to do it pretty easily without having to lose any data. Doing it through the Windows installation basically WILL delete all data on your drive. With partition magic, you won't lose a thing. Partition magic will just create a partition using free space on your hard drive.

Yeah! I agree with what OpaQue said about linux. Linux has tons of security loopholes and stuff like that, I think its prolly the most easily hacked OS out there. Hence why its free, lol.

Well, thanks to everyone who as attmpted to help me. I think that I am going to install the LInux after all. Like no9t9 said, I am going to download and use the Norton Partition Manager. I really want to get the Linux installed in the comp so that I can use it for my software engineering practices. Thanks to you all once again for your nice help.

hard drive stops working randomly, please help! (7) I just bought that disk (seagate SATA 500G) half year ago and found it stop working randomly,
resulting the whole system to be dead. BTW, I am using Win XP. I tried to use seatool, provied by

Cd Drive Eject Button Problem
see inside for explanation (3) i have a old dvd burner that is very reliable. the only problem that i have is the eject button on
that thing is a little busted. i know you can right click to eject it but how can i return it(after
you put a cd you press that thing to let the cd go inside) it is an old one and you push the cd
holder like the other one i have. my question is, is there a way to program it or such. because one
burner program has an option like this and it works. but the program isnt free.....

Network Install Linux On Laptop With No Cd Drive?
(6) I was hoping some linux tech heads here could give me some pointers about installing linux onto a
laptop I have which has no cd drive. To make things worse it does not even boot from usb. I had
installed XP on it with an unattended install using the /makelocalsource switch which copies files
to the local hdd then finishes setup from there after reboot. Is there an easy switch function to
install any linux distro once you have the files on your hdd? (I have a mapped network drive to my
laptop and sharing from my desktop so i can access my files. I just don't know if....

A:/ Drive Not Found
My A:/ drive is not working. (4) Need your HELP! Today I had to reinstall my operating system and low and behold my A:/ drive
is not working. I have replace the drive and still nothing. My Hard drive and CD rom are showing up

4 Wheeler Talk
What kinds 4 wheel truck do you drive (6) I have a 2007 Dodge Ram with the Big Horn Package I have a lot of the horns and whisles with it. I
dont use it for plowing or work basically a family vrhical. I have the V8 Hemi engine in it with the
automatic 4 wheel locking drive dial. It has a six speed trans and 20 inch wheels and plenty of
crome. For a 4 wheels dirve it rides prety good not like the ols style 4 wheelers I use to ride in.
The gas milage also is not bad instead of like 8 to 10 miles per gallon I get like 18 to 19 mi per
gallon. Need less to say I have had some problems already basically warenty work b....

(9) One of my friends dropped her Dell Inspiron 1501 and the computer now won't boot. On inspection,
the computer takes a long time to finish POST, then displays that it's loading Broadcom drivers,
Intel drivers, and then it displays: No OS detected. Check PXE ribbon . So I restart, check out

personally used to a computer telling me that it can't find bootable media in this case, but I

System Does Not Detect Dvd/cdrom Drive

it into a system with USB 1.1 ports only, although the Mass Storage Device and the Fujitsu MHT2030AT
USB Device appears in Device Manager, there is no extra Disk added to Disk Manager (so I can't
