Google Video - Allow Upload?! - not search for video but host it?!?!

lamode
i found this while i searching for free video files host... this still in beta version but i think this is a good feature, google offer you space, so you can upload your video in to google but the sad thing is you must install a program (about 800kb) to upload video files.

QUOTE
We're accepting digital video files of any length and size. Simply sign up for an account and upload your videos using our Video Uploader (please be sure you own the rights to the works you upload), and, pending our approval process and the launch of this new service, we'll include your video in Google Video, where users will be able to search, preview, purchase and play it.

you can visit https://upload.video.google.com/ for more information.

i wish they had this for uploading any files, desn't really matter about downloading the little file first but it would be better ifit was just browser. I'll be sure to check this out.

But what if the program contains spyware  blink.gif
*

You don't have to worry about that. Considering the program is from Google and all, you can be sure that it will not contain spyware. First, I think it should have an End User License Agreement that you have to read. If a program has spyware, it has to say that it has spyware or else the program is illegal. Second, there are tons of anti-spyware applications out there that can easily get rid of the spyware if Google decides to put it in their applications.

In other words, don't worry about spyware.

How do I apply?

Simply sign up for the Google Video program. Then, download the Video Uploader tool, and follow the instructions for uploading your content to Google Video. Before uploading any video, you must read and agree to the Google Video Upload Program Terms and Conditions.

We can't guarantee that all videos will be included in Google Video. The content may be reviewed prior to being made available online. Please be assured that we'll notify you if we cannot use the content you submit

Will users be able to click through to my website?

Yes. You can add your URL and other information to your video via your Video Status page in your account. Once your video is available on Google Video, users will be able to click your URL to visit your website. We realize that traffic to your website is valuable and hope to generate even more for you through this program.

Does my video need captions or a transcript?

The more information you provide to us, the better your video can be searched. While we don't require that you add captions or a transcript to your video, we strongly recommend it.

To add a transcript and additional video information, visit your Video Status page, and click “Add” beneath the Transcript column. For formatting tips, visit our Submitting Transcripts page.

Can I add information to my video to help people find it?

Yes. Each time you submit a video, you'll be asked to add information about your video with as much related information as you can provide (Geeks call this metadata). This will help users find your videos. The more information you provide, the better your video can be searched.

What file formats do you accept?

Google accepts video in a wide range of popular formats. The fastest way to get your videos into Google Video is to submit each file in MPEG4 format with MP3 audio or MPEG2 with MP3.

While we also support other digital formats such as QuickTime, Windows Media, and RealVideo, it's important to note that submitting your files in these formats may significantly delay us from using them on Google Video. In some cases, we may not be able to add your video at all.

Here are our preferred video specs:
NTSC (4:3) size and framerate, deinterlaced
Video Codec: MPEG2 or MPEG4 (MPEG4 preferred)
Video Bitrate: at least 260Kbps (750kbps preferred)
Audio Codec: MP3 vbr
Audio Bitrate: at least 70Kbps (128 Kbps preferred)

What are the system requirements for the Google Video Uploader? Is there a size limitation? A maximum number of videos I can upload?

You can upload as many videos to Google Video as you like, without any size or length limitations. However, we do require the following:
You must be operating on Windows 98 or higher to install the Uploader.
You'll need a broadband connection to upload video.

All my videos are on physical media such as VHS, Beta or DVD. Can I mail you my videos?

Not at this time. Currently, we can only accept content uploaded electronically.

Can I remove my videos after I upload them?

Yes. Please let our support team know and we'll remove your content from the program.

How do I choose a price for my video?

You can name any price for your video, which can be done from your Add/Edit Video Information page. The price you choose completely depends on you and your distribution goals.

We suggest that you choose a fair price that you think users will pay to view your video content. Because you can change the price at any time, experiment and see what price brings you the most success.

You can also set the price to zero and allow users to access and play your video for free. This will potentially give you wider distribution than those who choose to charge a price. If our costs to play your video on Google are extraordinary, we may charge users a fee (if you've specified zero as the price for your video) or take a larger revenue share of the price (if you've set a price greater than zero for your video) to cover some of these costs. For example, if you upload a high definition file that's 500 MB and it becomes extremely popular, we might charge users a fee instead of giving it to them for free or ask you for a higher percentage of the revenue from the price of the video. Please be assured, however, that we'll let you know before we add a price or charge a higher revenue share for your video.

What does Google do with the personal information I submit when I create an account?

In order to upload video, you'll have to provide some unique information such as your name and email address. This information will be used only for purposes of the Google Video program unless you specify otherwise. Please review our Privacy Policy and the Terms and Conditions for more information.

Copyright
Do I retain copyrights and other legal rights to my videos?

Yes. You retain all rights to your content. Google assumes no copyright to your material.

What is your policy on copyright infringement?

Google respects the rights of copyright holders and publishers and is only accepting video uploads from persons who hold all necessary rights to the uploaded material. Our policy is to respond to any notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If we receive a notice or otherwise have reason to believe that content you submitted infringes another party's copyright, your account may be terminated and the video removed from Google Video. More information about our DMCA process is available at http://www.google.com/dmca.html.

How do I report copyright infringement?

If you believe that someone else has uploaded your copyrighted content without your permission, we encourage you to contact that person in order to resolve any differences with them directly.  You can also contact our support team using this form for instructions on how to submit a copyright infringement notice to Google Video, or follow the directions available at http://www.google.com/dmca.html.

What if I have been falsely accused of copyright infringement?

We'll let you know if we receive a copyright complaint about any of your video content that is hosted on Google. We'll give you the opportunity to file a DMCA counter notification following the steps at http://www.google.com/dmca.html#counter.

[/tab]I started this topic ( http://www.trap17.com/forums/index.php?sho...ndpost&p=133447 ), at first, thinking that Google probably don’t know anything about using the mail account as a large accessible storage. But, what if Google wanted to let that happen? After reading this article found on this thread ( http://www.trap17.com/forums/index.php?sho...ndpost&p=140675 ) you will find this article ( http://google.blognewschannel.com/index.ph...es-accelerator/ ) to be very interesting. But now that Google may be hosting your video files that can be shared with anyone you choose, is this another way Google expanding their “snap shots?” I mean you wouldn’t believe what kind of stuff that I found (I wasn’t looking for them, lol) by going into Yahoo!, search video, and some inappropriate words or titles (again, I wasn’t looking for them but it cross referenced each other, i.e.”world video mov”). You thought your webcam was safe? Well don’t look now because someone has the video clip you sent on their hard drive… ut oh
[tab]Now that Google is testing the video hosting service ( http://www.trap17.com/forums/index.php?sho...ndpost&p=138784 ) should you consider caution when uploading your video? Or support Google in their pursuit of becoming the greatest search engine? “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely” – Lord Acton. I would think twice about utilizing Google as your video file storage. But then again, I am more paranoid then ever before!

ok, the only thing i have to said is this: HOW MUCH SPACE DOES GOOGLE HAVE?! omg.. i now im seriously thinking they are stealling bandwitch or something like that xD! i want to have servers like that.. i once hearded of that page, they give you like a review of certain videos and a place where you can download them (i didnt get clearly if it was from their servers or from anothers..)

The important key here that I think people are going to over look is the fact that the video uploads must be approved before Google "hosts" them. It's not like people are going to be able to upload hd broadcast tv shows that they recorded with their TiVo or downloaded off of bittorrent.

I think its a wonderfull that they offer this, Its great for me, sharing videos, stuff for myt website etc, And best of all theres no limits on file size and how much videos you can upload, they only disadvantage is that to view the files you must also download the google video viewer, which most people viewing your site wouldnt want to do. I wish they let you use windows media, quictime, or anything to view the videos with. But its still usefull.
