Google is quickly working its way up the list of biggest companies. I think it could get bigger than Microsoft. In 2005, it was ranked number 904 on Forbes Global 2000 in 2005, and only one year later, it jumped to spot 439 in 2006. Microsoft, on the other hand, was in spot number 47 in 2005 and dropped to 55 in 2006. Not significant, but maybe overshadowing something to come?
On the other hand, people can't use google without a computer. And where are they going to get that computer? From Microsoft. And Microsoft also has a huge amount of programs under its belt. It's a tough call.
I think that it depends from year to year and it is going to be a close call, but i think for the forseeable future microsoft will be the larger company espiacally due to the release of vista sales will be higher for the next few years as people swap over and replace their programs with newer vista versions. But thats just my opinion.
i hope google goes above them.... microsft sucks in all i only use there software because i like to game... and using a virtual machine on linux it runs slow... so i go with linux as my virtual machine...
either way google is a power to reckon with now since they went public
some people think that google will one day take over all of computers, but the truth is that google is only a search engine. its not like they will start making computers and mass producing them faster than dell or microsoft. sorry to say, but google is all it will ever be,

I don't think google will be bigger than microsoft. MS has been doing eerythign else for way too long. If bill gates woke up with hiw bank account at the same level as google's yearly profit, he'd jump off a building. he wouldn't even be able to fill up his fleet of jets...
Google is rising very fast while Microsoft don't have such success. Why? Now is much harder present something new in operative system so Microsoft can expect success only if their Vista give us something new and revolutionary.
On the other hand Google is specialised for the Internet where they have much more space for new ideas programs....
So many experts think that the Internet will be future and who take first position in Internet software will have bright future while others will have big problem
I think that even though you need a computer to use Google's stuff, and even though Microsoft has a lot of software, there are a couple things that help google something amazing.
Not all computers run Windows - I have linux
Not all programs even run on windows.
You need one computer, yet once you have that one computer, you can use Google's stuff as much as you like. I searched 7 times today, checked Gmail three times, saw tons of google ads, and I use the Jabber IM protocol for Gaim.
Google is starting to get big on software as well, and their online spreadsheet (which MS is now happily making as well...) was quite a success, and people trust google, it's not as if they are going to download something bad. People against Microsoft - a growing number - for the most part don't mind or adore Google, and it is udisputedly the best search engine around. Yahoo is strange, they seem to like banners a bit too much...
Google ads have been a great success all over, and Google must be making quite a bit on them not like the pop-ups advertising viagra...
Gmail must be one of the best webmails around - enough storage, free POP access (unlike Hotmail, these days), and a layout that appeals - again, never seen a banner add on gmail.
For those who didn't know it, Google is behind Blogger, so they are also offering hosting.
Who knows what they will do next? a GOffice suit? or maybe 'G'OS (Google Operating System ?
They are doing well, and though they have quite a way to go, Google might just catch up some day.
Microsoft will probably be hit harder by the decreasing oil supplies, too
Or they could get it from Apple. Its OS is on 10% of Computers, and almost every school uses Apple computers.
u have a point about most schools using Mac, but they hate them because most of the schools parents have windows and it seems to be a compatiblity problem when one person rights up a report on a mac and emails it to a parent who can read the mac on the pc, because it only works with mac + I have seen more and more, or heard schools having mac at one time then switching to windows, but they do like powerschool better. however my school uses other resources that can do more than powerschool, and also every student that goes to that school has 24/7 live access to all of the districts programs, all running on windows, oh and i'm not quite sure almost all is 100% correct. it may just be me but with os's there are two groups macs, and pcs, pcs seem to be the easyier of the two to use, mac may be good for photos and video , and sound, which I would love it if I had access to that type of stuff, but for productivity pc will always win, obviously die hard pc fan

ha, wow, I do have to say that is one heck of a claim there, but I still have to say in the business world what is the most used operating system, windows, oh and also, google stock may be in the upper $300s-lower$400s but there stock price isusually dropping so its hard to make money off them, as microsofts stock remains rather constant and rising, alot easier to make money off of that rather than declining amounts of money. I really do like google but to make claims the they are so much bigger and better, they are great but I don't think I would have near as much fun surfing the net and using google with linux, no, I need windows and you do know that windows/microsoft was around even before google, and also does anyone know what operating system google serves off of? it could be linux, but I bet they have used windows. and you know now that I think of it it really doesn't matter who is bigger, google is a web based service so right now you really can't compare them and microsoft as microsoft is software.
you know its kind of like the firefox - IE argument, I still like them both very much which is the same as google and microsoft

Agreed! that not all computers run windows, some have Apple and some have Linux...But you are missing out the market share! what is the percentage of windows users in all over the world? I think that itself answers the domination of Microsoft.

They are doing well, and though they have quite a way to go, Google might just catch up some day.
I am also a fan of Google but I like microsoft too and I can say that Google will need a lot time to reach to the level of Microsoft. Microsoft is into most of the things related to computers....
They are into software development, operating system, hardware, gaming and what not.......and now they are giving the competition with the help of LIVE.COM
Microsoft is not run by fools, they are proffessionals and they know what they are doing, Google is certainly doing good and improving faster and faster but it will need lots and lots of time to even come near Microsoft.
I didnt vote but I am sure they CAN be bigger than Microsoft but wont take the additional steps to do so. Google likes to remain fairly even when it comes to growing their company. I mean if you look at their hq, its got a moderated amount of workers and its really hard to get a job in there. They keep everything moderate. Its an excellent company to work for though. I would kill to land a job in there.
It may only be a search engine but they are branching off allot, Google maps, Google video and more.. With the ammount of money they are bringing in they pretty much can almost do anything at this point.
Don't know and don't particularly care. Kings and presidents (and large companies) come and go. Now if someone were to build a starship that was cheap and efficient tomorrow THAT would catch my attention. A company is only a company, but a starship is a road to the very stars.
Yup, I know, I'm just a dreamer. Always have been. 'nuff said.
What Google should do is release an operating system . I know it's a long shot but it would increase Google's hold in the market. Gmail has already taken over by storm and Microsoft increased their hotmail space to counter-act but it all depends on the user's preferances in the end.

Google is on an acquisition spree. Over the last few days, it has acquired Panoromio and feed
burner. What does this mean? Well Panoromio mainly was used in Google Earth to show pics anywhere in
the world at the location taken while feedburner is aRSS feeds utility. But did Google make the
right choice. How long is it gonna continue making such aquisitions? It has gotten into a huge legal
turmoil with youtube. And it paid Doubleclick a ridiculously huge amount. Is Google gonna benefit
from these takeovers. Share your thoughts.....

Well it seems google search engine will get a big update when people begin using the search engine.
When a person checks the results of what they entered, they now have the option to check if
video's exsist but instead the video will be within the search query. So basically instead of
clicking all over the place everything will be intertwined within each other, they also plan to
include a gmail link up on top of the search results. Which means new people can sign up for a
gmail account that is now open to the public. They also provided a link to new idea's go....

Google has been the leading search engine for many years now, it makes me wonder how one out of what
seems like a million different search engines could stand out so much to the point where very few of
us would consider using something else. What I am curious about, is what search engines did people
use before the invasion of Google? I remember using a site called Metacrawler and that it
wasn't the most effective thing ever for what I was looking for, but it worked nonetheless. I
remember using yahoo too but again, it wasn't that refined back then either. Pos....
