I'm with several others here on WordPress. It's free, open-source, and has a decent community. Supposedly it is XHTML compliant, but I tried validating my blog (see my sig for link) and got a bunch of errors. However, the administraion interface is nice and easy to use.

I think wordpress is really nice and easy blog script
but if you think wordpress is not good for you , you can install "mt"
its cgi/sql blog script and i hate it
you can install a gallery in wordpress so like plugins and ...
wordpress has good and easy blog api !
did you know blog api ?
in cpanel / fantastico you can find many script like blogs

I am stuck with blogger, as i started with it, now shifting would mean remaking an audience.So choosing the right platform is important, i would reccomend that you use wordpress which is definately the best around, so many plugins, large no. of themes and easy implementation. Fantastico has the module for wordpress.

I'd have to say wordpress is the best software I've tried for features though modifying the header is murder.
